We had the gas (which means no cooking and no hot water) for three weeks. Then, waking up to find the ConEd man sniffing around to turn our electricity off. Both problems were because the landlord failed to clear the accounts of the previous tenant. The building was $3000 in debt with the utility companies.

I have two roommates and when they're both out of town, it's heaven. I start with a major cleaning. I usually take a bath at some point with candles and wine and a good book. We only have one bathroom, so taking a bath totally hogs it. The rest of the time I actually come out of my room for more than just access to the fridge. That mean lounging on the couch with my laptop.

I either make sure to get a glass bottle of some sort. It's usually a fancy water bottle or a beer bottle or something along those line. It's has to be region specific, of course. I went to Belize and there's a kind of beer that they make there. I made sure to save one of those.

Assigned seats at the kitchen table, at the dining room table, on the porch (this confuses my mother because my sister and I sit on opposites sides then in the kitchen), on the couch in the family room, when we have guests and sit in the living room and most definitely in the car. This is most important because it means that when there is only one parent in the car, I get the passenger seat. Little sister has to sit in the back.
