I appreciate Dr. Montessori's philosophy to "Follow the Child". I think the important idea is to have a variety of materials and experiences for the child and then to observe which ones hold the interest and enthusiasm. I am a teacher, and I also like the ideas in Waldorf that the parent is the child's first and best teacher. So I created a set of learn to read books for my own children and structured them so that they are practically self-taught with just an intro by the parents.
