First off, have fun. Enjoy ND nice! No one else mentioned blue laws, but it's something petty unique to ND. Most retail businesses won't open until noon on Sunday or will be closed all day.

Add far as thrift ships go, you'll find the standard St Vincent de Paul, Goodwill, and Salvation Army and F-M specific ARC of Cass-Clay and my personal favorite Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch thrift shop. Be prepared to drive a little, though, as everything is fairly sprawled out.

Downtown Fargo has a lot of little places to check out. Just take a stroll down Broadway, Zandbroz is a fun little shop with books and knick knacks. For local coffee, you have to go to Atomic! I also second the recommendation for Nichole's Pastries.

Skip West Acres and check out all the antique places Jessica ND listed.

I bought my current couch in 2007 for a whopping $3.70. It's a great MCM design end has been fabulous. After 5 years of avid use, we just replaced the cushions with high density foam. It's going to be bittersweet when we finally have to buy a larger one. Money doesn't always mean quality.

The inner nerd in me loves the pillows. I think they would be fun for a guest room or child's bedroom.

Mobiles are only for adults who don't understand their real purpose. People get so obsessed with having a nursery they like that they forget the mobile is actually important for vision development and growth for infants. Prime example of our obsession with appearances...

Oops, I was so excited to start making these that I missed the original reference to your favorites. Thanks for the clarification, Emma Christensen!

Oh....I feel your pain, literally.

We had bb for about 4 + months. It was embarrassing to admit to others, even though it was no fault of ours. :( We used black bags to bake them (laid outside or trapped in cars). Everything else was put in a dryer for 60 mins - high temperature. All thoroughly sanitized items were then put into large rubbermaids, then taped them close to prevent future infestation. We stripped our sleeping area except for the bed (which was thankfully already in an anti-bb case before the infestation). Make sure you get those cases for your pillows as well.

You will start sleeping again, but you will freak out every single time you see a black speck in your house, be it lint, dust, or the like. Good luck! It will get better.

My friend had triplets a few years ago. I'm in the same boat as you, as I have no children. I knew that their girls were going to be in the NICU for a few months, so I went out and bought a whole bunch of books (chapter books, hardcover children's books, etc.). My thought was that mom and dad could read the books to their girls to help with the bonding experience, especially since they were so physically and emotionally drained. They really loved the gift and said it helped to grow that family bond even more.
