Can anyone recommend good, inexpensive, SMALL-EAR ear buds? I have the hardest time finding buds that are small enough for my tiny canals. The included three-covers with Sony buds are nice, but sometimes the base still just makes them too big to work, even with the smallest cover. Anyone with similar troubles have a recommendation?

I HIGHLY recommend the bakfiets, which several other folks have mentioned. They come with a hefty price tag, but they are totally the safest way to schlep around kids on a bike. They're practically impossible to tip over, super sturdy, have the advantage that you can see your kids in front of you and know they're all right, and you can use the rain cover to keep your kids warm and dry. My brother's carless family uses their bakfiets in conjunction with a couple of portable foldable bikes to safely and easily get everyone where they need to go (that way dad can drop the kids off, and mom can pick them up). I've been both rider and passenger, and I'm a huge fan.

They have one of the bakfiets.nl bikes, bought locally through CleverCycle in Portland, Oregon.

@Beaufort, did you even read the comment?

"Remember when they threatened to close down all of their soup kitchens in NYC because they didn't want to provide equal benefits to unmarried domestic partners? Yeah."

Yes, they do good things, but they also are willing to STOP doing those good things for political reasons. They can endorse or not endorse whomever they wish. But if their good works are contingent on their politics, that makes it pretty hard for me to separate their politics from their works. I liked the couch and said so. I also responded to Blandwagon's question. What's the big deal?

Might be fun doing a big wall display with a ton of small, funky, mismatched frames, one per ticket, in a display something like the ones here:

You could even pick frames that somehow reflect each band or concert. I'm a sucker for mismatching.

Oops, I didn't mean to repost Blandwagon's comment there too, sorry -- had copied it for reference.

My comment ends after "Yeah."

@Blandwagon

I would also point out that the Salvation Army has shown that they are willing to SACRIFICE the people they serve in order to more effectively discriminate against the LGBT population. Remember when they threatened to close down all of their soup kitchens in NYC because they didn't want to provide equal benefits to unmarried domestic partners? Yeah.

Here's an interesting question: do the Salvation Army's "blatantly homophobic corporate policies" completely negate all of their good work with the poor and needy? It would seem to me that in order for a boycott of their charity stores to be valid, the pain they have caused homosexuals would have to be greater than the relief and hope they have brought to others.

This isn't a troll, by the way: I'm genuinely curious to know people's responses. Folk seem very willing these days to overlook 9 good things a person or organisation does in order to concentrate on the 1 bad thing they do.

@Eeka -- seconded.

Nice looking sofa though.

If you do decide to sell the other one on Craigslist, I'd recommend getting a better photo. The fuzzy-low-blue-light thing you have going on right now really doesn't do anything for it. Consider a tripod.

I've lived alone for three years, and in the past week just purchased my first home, alone. It's the best thing ever. I think even if I lived with a significant other, I would need my own designated private space in the house to which I could retreat.

@prue:

Ouch. Way out of my price range, though thanks for the link. I stumbled upon some of those gradual-light lamp timers online just now, and I think that'll be the ticket. Great idea!

Lizsh -- I did too, but after six years of living in normal lighting conditions, I've totally readjusted. I visited just recently, and I found I was absolutely unable to wake up at my usual time because it was still completely dark, and pretty soon I was staying up and sleeping two to three hours later than normal. Awful!

A light like that is a brilliant idea. Where do you find one? My major dilemma is that while I use sheers to let the light in, it would be nice to be able to put up heavy drapes in the winter to keep it a little warmer. That may be the solution.

I love the Good Form chairs! I bought two of a similar variety (only one, wider center metal piece on the back instead of the double center) for a total of $7 on Craiglist, and they're wonderful. Super comfy. Guess I got a deal :D

lol@Seaside.

The selections chosen for the article are tacky tacky tacky, but I do have one "inspirational" image in my home that I absolutely adore:

(if you're too lazy to click -- it's a great little gocco print by Rosemary Travale that reads "Stop being sad, start being RAD!" Gets me out of bed on those extra-tough days ;)

Sadly, this combo is a no-go here in Pittsburgh, unless you want to look like a seriously testosterone-fueled Steelers fan.

I've had a ton of dreams about moving and new apartments, but they're usually anxiety dreams, not wish fulfillment dreams...Either I've moved from my nice one-bedroom into a dorm-type situation, or to get into the apartment, you have to climb this horrible ledge and through a crawl space, or there are people in my apartment who shouldn't be there and who refuse to leave, or my place has been rearranged or remodeled without my permission, or I can't afford to rent anywhere, etc. etc. The fears of the city! I've had a ton of dreams like that over the years.

Though when my ex was about to change apartments, he had a dream about moving into a huge house with his friends with a giant kitchen as well as a big, deli-style fridge full of microbrew beers, which probably just means it's a pain to buy beer in Pittsburgh.

Not an option regardless! They just passed a law here that disallows porch couches. But I'd say it's a no-go for me anyway -- I can't imagine an outdoor couch remaining clean for more than 10 minutes.
