When I lived in a neighborhood of Boston I got rid of my car for over 10 years and loved it. I walked and took the bus or the T everywhere. The exercise was great and I loved the people-watching. Now that I've moved out of the city I still have the option to take public transport to work but it involves a 10-minute walk to a 25-minute bus ride to a 15-minute T ride to another 15-minute walk so it's become too cumbersome a commute. So now I drive. Boo.

Any trend that make's a child's room more comfortable and happy is a good one and all of these fall into that category!

I have this problem big time and the answer is to invite my mom over for the day. She helps me get beyond my indecisiveness and just do it: hang the pictures, paint the walls, etc. Aside from any huge purchases, everything can be changed later.

On another note, although I love sites like AT and Pinterest sometimes the sheer volume of possibilities makes decision-making that much harder. But I think the answer is just to go with things that you are naturally drawn to.

I'm in the market for a slipcovered sofa—one that has a machine-washable slipcover. Anyone have any suggestions???

I took an upholstery class at the Eliot School in Jamaica Plain (neighborhood of Boston) to reupholster two small chairs. The class was 3 hours a week for 10 weeks. When I started, I thought to myself, "What in the world am I going to do after I finish these chairs in the first few classes?" Little did I know how much work goes into reupholstery. After going to every single class for the entire 3+ hours I BARELY finished my chairs in time. But, they look amazing (wish I could attach pics) and the cost of the class ($300) made it a cheaper way to get it done. The classes were a bit disorganized but the teacher is a pro and will help you as much as he can. I'm nervous to try a project on my own but think I may have picked up enough skills to go for it...

I agree...these look worth spending the money to get them professionally upholstered. Just be sure that you choose a reputable person/company to do them because there are some upholstery hacks out there!

It's hard to believe but one wine bottle fits perfectly into each of those drawers. My dad and I re-finished a badly damaged card catalog that I found at Brimfield and now we keep our wine in there!
