I am a Canadian ex-pat in London. It was very difficult to find a nice (good light, non-basement, good-sized) flat in a part of London I wanted to live in. I ended up choosing Chiswick as it has a neighborhood feel, is close to nice shops and has good transport links. Even once I knew I where I wanted to live I found dealing with the major letting agencies (like Foxtons mentioned above) very trying. I found and have been living in a great flat but am now moving to the West of England for a new job. I move out later this month so it is available early April. The flat is ground floor with a big bay window, private garden in back, with a nice landlord and neighbours. I rented from the same letting agency it is up with now and had no problems dealing with them.
