Wow, what a great room! I actually came across this page in my quest for a DIY curtain rod that I need to span the length of a 14 foot wall, and what you've done here is so creative and so perfect for my family room!

I was just wondering whether you had to use any supporting brackets in the middle of the rod ... I'm trying to get around it because it'll get in the way. And in case Lisa never sees this question, I'm all ears to everyone else's suggestions.

Thanks for the inspiration, Lisa, Scott and AT!!

I'd edit my previous comment to include this if I could ... here's a a shot of my son's nursery with the same curtains:

Our nurseries are so similar! My walls are dark grey though (as is my La-Z-Boy rocker) and I also went with a dark yellow as the main accent colour. In fact, I had my grandmother make the curtains using the same yellow chevron fabric, also lined with blackout material! So naturally, I think this room is fantastic =P

My son is still bunking beside my bed in his bassinet, but we hope to put him in his crib in his nursery next week as he'll be 3 months. Hope he loves his room as much as I do!

Cute final product!!

Also just wanted to say that you can totally use oil-based primer followed by latex paint. I do it all the time because the oil-based primer isn't gloppy like latex-based primer.

Wow, I LOVE this!! Very inspiring!! Does anyone know where I can pick up a calendar like this?

I thought C&B sold them but I don't see it listed on their site. I also don't see calendars this large available on Staples' or Office Depot Canada's websites :(

I did something similar to cover my scratched up piano bench. I was at Walmart and found a cheap-o ($18) white furry rug, folded it in half and just put it on top of the piano bench. It fit perfectly!

I have a lot of white in the space my brown-stained piano is located in, so putting the white fluffy rug on the bench helped to tie it in to the space better, soften the hard lines of the bench, and cover the ugly scratches.

I didn't use a staple gun to make it permanent though since the bench needs to open up.

I've been seeing this idea (bed in nursery) pop up on so many of my favourite design blogs recently. It's such a no-brainer to me, and will definitely be something I do when the time comes. Not sure if I'll do a daybed that I can move to a different room later, or a real bed, but will definitely be doing one of the two.

My parents put a double bed in the nursery when I was born. My mother spent many nights in that bed when I was a newborn. Then, when I was 3 or so and had outgrown my crib, I went straight to the double bed. It made so much more sense than buying a twin only to upgrade later.

I love the drop-leaf table in the kitchen, but I immediately thought, "What's the point?" when you have a lovely dining room table already.

Personally, I'm all about storage ... I would outfit that nook in the kitchen with some kind of additional storage. That's just me though -- I just don't understand why people put small tables in kitchens when they have informal dining rooms that would be perfect for everyday use.

All that said, you have a lovely home. I definitely picked up a few ideas. Thanks for sharing!

Tommy is awesome!! I love, love, love his brutal honesty, saracasm, wit and of course, his ability to design and decorate!!

I love how his place is so eclectic without looking cluttered. It's refreshing to see a home that has evolved over time; not a matchy-matchy furniture set, dining room set, furniture set, etc. There's a story with every piece. LOVE IT!!

Thank you SO much for this tutorial and for the inspiration!!

I wanted french outswing doors for my all of my closets. I shelled out close to $400 for custom shaker panel french doors for my entrance closet and knew we couldn't afford to put in 2 more in our master bedroom. So this is the PERFECT solution!

The only thing is that I don't love the profile of the 6-panel door. Maybe I could try plain doors ... hmmm ...

Maybe it's just the angle, but I find this the opposite of cohesive. The 2 contrasting colours are too much of a contrast for me. I personally have a similar bowling-alley living room/dining room and used 2 Le Klint pendants to unify the space.

IKEA sells something similar but it's not that shallow. It's the 'high cabinet' in the 'Godmorgon' line and measures about 15" deep. I love the look and am putting one in my guest bath in high-gloss white!

We have 2 IKEA Knodd garbage cans that we use as hampers -- one in the main bathroom, and one in the bedroom. (Click here for a pic) I think they're practical and pretty, and they have a lid which is a definite bonus!

I can't tell you what happens after I throw my clothes in there ... my husband takes care of washing/folding/ironing/putting away the laundry. Yep, I'm one lucky lady!

I have a big fat Holland lop rabbit who molts 4 times/year. Each molting session lasts up to 2 months -- it's brutal!

I remove tufts of loose fur to control the amount of loose fur flying around it's not good for his digestive system if he consumes a lot of fur. He can't cough up fur balls the way a cat can.

And I run my vacuum cleaner in the two rooms he runs around in daily. I have a Dyson and I can't sing it's praises loud enough!

I actually have leather couches in my living room which doesn't attract any fur. My husband is renovating our family room, downstairs, which I will be furnishing this summer. I hadn't even considered that the fabric would collect hair until reading this post. I'm not worried though -- I can't remember what show this was one, but I saw a woman use dish gloves to gather pet hair off the couch. It worked like a charm!
