I think kids should absolutely be included in doing the household chores! Starting at about age 8 I did all the usual things; dishes, cleaning my bathroom, running the vacuum cleaner, and taking care of my cat. Once I got a bit older my dad started paying me a few bucks to mow the lawn once a week and my mom taught me how to do my laundry. They never left these tasks up to me alone to choose to do or not do either. They would remind me about them, but if I didn't choose to do it myself, they would make sure that I did. I think that all of this made me into a better, more responsible person now. I think that a lot of the entitlement that kids today have stems from the fact that they're not made to do anything at home. A lot of parents wait on their kids hand and foot leaving them to believe that they don't have to do anything for themselves in life.
