I used to have walls painted almost the same color as in the picture posted above and now I have crisp white walls. I think I sleep better with the white walls. It feels cleaner, and more open, which for me are conducive to good sleep. Plus, when you wake up to a light-filled white room, it's pretty great.

I could be mistaken, but I do not think it's illegal to sleep in a windowless room, it's merely illegal to market a windowless room as a bedroom. In any event, this is a large closet, presumably right off the bedroom with the door always open. Since a baby cannot escape a fire through a window anyway, what difference does it make? Think of it as an alcove off of the master bedroom, not as a closet. The space is big enough to get plenty of air and light from the bedroom and it may actually be safer for the child to sleep there then in a different room altogether. Also, how is sanitation an issue?

I've just recently moved for work and do not have a washer or dryer in my apartment. A friend offered to let me use theirs, but I declined. I actually like doing laundry. Every Sunday afternoon I load up my car with all my laundry (and it's alot, since I have so many towels and bedsheets that I wash as often as possible) and spend a few quiet hours at a laundromat with a book, an ipod, and some brought-from-home snacks. I guess I'm lucky since the owners of this laundromat have put alot of work into making it a fairly pleasant place to be, but I really do enjoy it and at this juncture have no plans to purchase a washer and dryer.

But I suppose if I had a family, it would be a different story. It's easier to stay on top of laundrey when it's just your own, I suppose.

This is beautiful! I have plans to turn my attic, which is large and open, into a rec-room/office/media room/etc., but now I'm tempted to turn it into a massive master suite and paint the wooden floors green.

BTW, I used to live in Lawrence, briefly, a few years ago. Quite a lovely city, not what people think when they hear "Kansas".

Absolutely hate this kind of lamp.

I actually love the bed by the window. Aside from it being the most functional place for the bed (having guests over and having them walk by your bed to get to the living area is a little awkward, I think), I've always loved waking up with the morning light. Great light for when you're lying in bed with a book on a lazy day, etc.

I actually commend whoever did this. It's quite clear that the "before" didn't fit the owner's aesthetic and they did a beautiful job tailoring it to their own taste. Some of these comments are just downright rude.

I have no idea why this tour doesn't have more comments, because it's amazing. It's very industrial, which almost always translates at cold. But this place looks homey and relaxed while still incorporating kind of modern/utilitarian elements. Fantastic job.

If getting it re-upholstered is really out of the question, I would just cover it with a sheet or two and stick it in the attic. If you don't have room or don't like to store something of that size when it's not in use and want to give it away, I think Austin&Foster's suggestion of taking a nice photo of it would be a good idea. Since it has sentimental value, a photo might not be the real thing, but at least it's something.

I would put new tiles. Actually, even painting the tiles would be preferable to leaving them bare. They're effing hideous, imo.

As much as I personally LOVED the "before" beds, design and living is about what works for you. And whoever bought these, painted them, put new fabric on them, and put them to good use certainly has the right to do what they please with them. And they did a good job. Nothing says they can't be painted another color or put new fabric on them to serve a new purpose down the road. That's the beauty of good design. It's versatile.

I like your idea of spray-painting them black. A very shiny black would work best, imo.

As for upholstery, I would go for a pattern. Something art-deco. Like.... black with gold. Or red. But definitely some sort of graphic print would really wake up the chairs but that would look like a natural fit for the chairs, which are quite striking. A great find, I must say.

Honestly I don't think there's much you can do. Adding edging or trying to distract/hide the current condition is probably going to draw more attention. I'd just get the carpet cleaned very well and apply a fresh coat of bright white paint. No, it's not going to look great, but since it's a rental and your options are limited, I think the best thing to do is just try to make what's already there look as clean as possible. If you do that, the worst thing the stairs will be is bland. They're not hugely offensive or anything.

I know someone who lives in this building! It's such an unusual set-up with the railings and layout. I'd recognize it anywhere.

Anyways, lovely place.

This is really cool. I never thought about doing it to make wall-art for the home, though I've always been as fan of this kind of thing.
