We use four for sleeping - two per side. When the bed is made up, I tend to only add two small decorative pillows....which I can toss in the floor at night. Anything more would be far too many.

@IVICHELLE

But why waste money building this set up? For what it cost, the parents could have gotten an apartment with another bedroom.

I actually have shown some of these photos to my mother, who's now in her 60's who lived in some crappy housing and even dealt with outhouses until her teens. Even then it was only two or three kids to a room, not 4.

As for making the living room more private, you're going to need to hang curtain rods from near the ceiling with full-length curtains and go from the doorway to the second bedroom to the entrance to the living room. For the most privacy, you'll either need a very thick curtain or go with layers so the person can choose their privacy. Whomever gets this room is going to have a much smaller bedroom and is going to want to pay less rent.

As for common spaces, you only will have the foyer and one corner of the living room. You might be able to squeeze a couple chairs or a small two-person dining table without overcrowding it. A chair (maybe two) and ottoman could probably fit into the living room corner that won't be part of the third bedroom.

I have to agree that the curtains seem far out of place. I love that you let your daughter chose some things for her room instead of cramming her into a ikea set-model which is what we see a lot of. It seems perfect for a little girl.

I can imagine curling up in the bed(?) in photo 1 with a good book - bad part would be is I wouldn't ever want to get up.

Turn the furniture in the living area about 90 degrees - the sofa should be a natural divider. With this you likely even have space for another chair if you want it. It seems that you already have a place to eat by the kitchen (the bar seating) so you don't necessarily need a dining table. I'd probably place a desk behind the sofa and some shelving to the right of the desk.

A higher headboard could help. I want to say do an L-shaped headboard around the bed, but then I noticed the window. Since the room is small, a bookcase-style headboard could be nice for extra storage.

I will get hate for this but I buy most of my clothing from Target and Walmart. Nothing has just fallen apart like people want to claim. Most has lasted a good five years and at that point I'm willing to buy another shirt or whatnot. I tend to end up donating most of the more expensive clothing I've bought since I'm always too wary to wear it. I can't afford to replace a $50 dollar shirt that often if I am a klutz and spill food on it. I can however go buy another $10 shirt easily and the old shirt gets cut up to become my new cleaning rags.

Either before or during the main course and no it's not something I picked up from a tacky restaurant. It is just the way I grew up and the way my parents and their parents (who never visited restaurants) grew up. I see the salad like an appetizer.....something small to get myself ready for the meal. It's also easy to eat if the main dish is taking a bit longer to finish than expected.

I forgot to tack on price. I pay $15-ish for Netflix (the one movie through the mail at a time plus unlimited streaming) and I average getting, watching, and sending back a movie once a week through the mail - so not counting streaming, this equals up to just over $4.50 a movie. I can provide enough snacks for about $5-7 for enough snacks to fill two people silly during the movie. So for under $15 I can enjoy the movie at home - this is the same price I'd pay for just admission tickets for two at the local theater.....not counting easily $20 in concessions once you get popcorn, drinks, and a small box of candy. So I'd pay three times as much to go to the theater to not enjoy myself since over half of people who go to the theater have absolutely no manners.

I can't beat the scree of the theater.....but the quality of the picture is just as good at home. Plus my couch is much comfier than any theater seat I've sat in and I can set up my choice of snacks on the coffee table - for a 10th of the price of concessions at the theater. Another pro is no children running around screaming, teenagers (and adults any more) talking or messing around with their mobile phones, etc.

Most dishwashers use the same water for the entire cycle - it's not like it refills with fresh water. It's simply stored in a tank when it's rinsed out until it needs to go back in. So unless you are only filling one side of a sink and doing little to no rinsing, the dishwasher is the most efficient. We do rinse our dishes before putting them in a dishwasher, but we own enough dishes to only need to run the dishwasher twice a week.

It's hard to believe how expensive these are. I went pretty much straight to a twin after the crib (was part of what used to be bunk beds that my older brothers had) and then to a full bed (another hand-me-down) around the age of 12. As far as I can remember even my crib was a hand-me-down. I only got a brand new bed when I was about 17 and asked for one for my birthday.

I say at the least go for a twin and maybe even a trundle since it can sleep guests easily.

I have to second or third using the space by the kitchen for your sleeping area. It seems the simplest solution. A tall bookshelf or two should help separate it from the kitchen and create a faux hallway to the kitchen without anyone feeling as if they are in your bedroom.

The curved wall seems perfect for a round table and four chairs....plus it's still very close to the kitchen. You could easily fit in a desk for a home office area either by the sleeping area without it overtaking the space.

In what's left of the space, you can either likely get a sectional or couch and a chair to fit. If you have a TV the space in front of the largest closet should hold a credenza. You could go all the way with separate pieces and make what looks like a wall unit - use part of it for living room electronics and stuff and the other half for extra storage.

First of all get the property checked by a county official to make sure both you and your neighbor know where the property line is. Either of you could be off.

Afterwards a short rock wall could look nice and would be a definite boundary of where the neighbor needs to stop mowing. :)

As usual, I play the role of the logical one - what are your plans when the kid gets too big for the crib? The room is supposed to be for your baby. Take out the desk.

Why keep furniture you are not using? Either get rid of it and get the extra space or buy something more functional. It's really that simple. Stop decorating to please the current fad.
