I do love this design but alas (in London at least) it's ubiquity has become it's own enemy to the point where that saying 'familiarity breeds contempt' really has started to apply. It's sadly become a bit of a 21st century cliche for the contemporary home.

For my own flat I invested in the Tolomeo Mega by Atemide (the largest lamp in the range).

It's more practical since it's got a beautifully engineered weighted canitlevered two arm mechanism (it's made in Italy), and with a parchment shade it gives off more ambient light, a lovely warm glow. It's still iconic, but not as predictably a choice and lends a gorgeous architectural quality to a room.

Thanks for this tip. I will definitely give it a try. In the past I've used a great site, artforikeaframes.com which offers a kind of half way house.

They have quality works of art by professional photographers who submit their work to the site. As a customer you can order these prints in sizes to specifically fit IKEA frames.

They look great and, especially the RIBA range you'd never tell how cheap the beautiful framed artwork cost! ( I've been told RIBA frames with the mattes included are based on traditional gallery frame designs).

It's amazing what a simple assortment simple gallery frames can do to a blank wall. It's not the most original treatment but gets you maximum impact for minimum spend which is obv important for a rental and something I recently did myself.

I bought a ton of inexpensive Ribba Ikea frames, then filled them with some gorgeous photographic and art prints from a company that specialises in producing art custom designed to fit any ikea frame:

It's really cheap and value for money and definitely the cheapest way to get beautiful, high quality framed art onto your walls.
