I re-decorated my own living room at the first of the year (also using a photo I found as inspiration). I love your inspiration living room by the way! When I wanted to get my pillows I turned to Etsy.com. Best decision I ever made!! I found exactly what I wanted (they possibly have EVERYTHING). They are also super durable, the best pillow covers I have ever purchased. Ever. Machine washable. And although I paid a bit more than I would at any other store I am so glad I did as these pillow covers will last me! I also went there and searched for your pillows and found some really great alternatives!! Good luck and I hope you share the after pictures!!!

Smoking in your home. Gross. Who does that? It smells awful and I can't bring my kids to your house. Eww.

My design pet peeve is lots of pillows on a bed. NO ONE ever slept with that many pillows. EVER. You have rid of them every single night before bed. It does not look comfortable at all. It also makes the bed look small in length and design. Four is really the maximum that a couple can have in their bed. Two each: one for your head and the other for cuddling when you don't cuddle your bed mate. In my opinion anyway.

It seems like you may be a few floors up. If it were me I would ditch the window treatments all together. If it were just the two of you or just you then I would also get rid of the chairs and get a bigger coffee table. Some colorful art, a bright colored throw, and pillows will definitely bring the dark couch down. make it bright and airy in there by opening up those windows and let the light reflect off the white walls. A big mirror would open the room up a lot too. The coffee table and deer head are not to scale with the size of the furniture. Goodluck!!

This post makes me so happy! I have been looking for a way to bring some midcentury to my accidental country chic dining table. When I was given an amazing antique pedestal table with a leaf (oval/circle shaped) I instantly decided to get mismatched chairs. I found 6 antique mismatched chairs and brought them home. Now I am unhappy with how shabby chic/or country chic it all looks. I am really in love with modern straight lines, all things midcentury and splashes of antique greatness. But the very idea that I could add some shell chairs in with the grouping actually makes me giddy. I am off to overstock/craigslist to dig up some shell chairs...thanks so much!

Pros:
* Off street parking in downtown Eugene, Oregon.
* free maintenance on home and yard
* our washer/dryer combo broke last month landlord replaced it with the sweetest new set ever.
* Rent for a four bedroom/two bath home $910...mortgage: who even knows!!
* Ability to paint, change window treatments, and plant (very small yard) freely.
* no property taxes
* Great landlord who lives next door and is willing to fix anything anytime!
Cons:
- small yard
- small porch
- unable to remodel the kitchen (the cabinets need an update...bad)
- paying $910 a month on something that isn't, in the end, going to be ours

Eugene, Oregon I pay $910 for a three bedroom with a bonus room (four bedroom for us).
I can/would pay low: $850 high: $1200 for a full house 3+ bedrooms.
I once saw a five bedroom for $850...steal.
I am a transplant from rural Kansas and literally paid $450 for a three bedroom with yard and two car garage. Wish I could get that great pricing here!!!

For all of my kids I did not use/have a rocker, glider, or lounger.
I use my own body for the swaying or rocking or bouncing.
I use the existing furniture.
A rocker seems like a distant luxury that I will never obtain
mostly for space reasons as in the nursery doesn't have space
and where the heck would I put it later?
I don't feel like I have missed out because I don't have one or didn't
use one. I have quite enjoyed the bit of "exercise" I have gotten moving
my body to soothe all of my children to sleep. :)

We went with the Ikea sectional that you can remove the covers and wash.
Speaking of mine could use a good wash now.
With one teen, two elementary school aged children and a newborn it was
important that we have something that couldn't necessarily be "ruined".
I also wanted it to stylish.
With the Ikea sectional you get style, functionality, and kid proof...win.
My rule of thumb is something my mother always said:
"You have kids or things."
I chose kids so my things are either put out of reach or something that the kids and touch too.
I don't think I could live in a home where my kids weren't allowed to just be themselves, a place where I am constantly yelling "NO!".
Sounds horrible.
