So the photographer thought that a picture of a vase on the floor was more important than a shot of the bed/bedroom? I don't get it. I don't want to see 5 shots of the same space at different angles even if it is a tiny apartment. Feeling a serious lack of feel for the entire home when focus is placed so heavily on individual objects.

I found this one on Pinterest last year and it's been on my to-do list ever since. So cute.

I first a doll that doesn't cost over $70! These dolls, while cute, are not even super realistic in the sense of a child having a baby to look after. Our daughter got a Corolle doll for her first birthday and while I still found it to be outrageously expensive at around $40, it looks incredibly lifelike and therefore she treats it as a real baby. Also, it has been proven that dolls that do not have a proper weight to them (bean bag type bodies) will not allow bonding in the same way as they just don't feel realistic enough for little ones.

Our toddler daughter had a basket full of shoes by the front door and I could never find a mate to any shoe I pulled out. Upon visiting my friend, I noticed her brilliant use of an old milk/soda crate (turned on its side with a shoe placed in each hole) and said "Hey, I have one of these that I don't have a use for!". Voila. Brilliant storage for small shoes. My daughter and I can instantly see each pair of shoes and she loves that she can choose her own now.

I loved this. Thought it at once both loving and realistic. My daughter would never get something like an IPhone (or whatever it's equivalent will be when she's a teen) without getting a contract like this.

We paid over $25 dollars for this stuff at the hardware store to save us from falling down our stairs with daughter in arms only to go to IKEA two weeks later and see it for only a few dollars. Ikea strikes again!

I think this is a parenting life lesson. In the future, perhaps you will not ask the question of color at all and instead present her with a lovely handmade mower that is natural wood and stays that way. We try to buy as much natural wood as possible because it is so classically beautiful. Especially if you think you might have another child down the road who may not agree that pink is the best color out there. Good luck with choosing the right pink!

As someone who was married to a music festival before my daughter was born (Pickathon was my annual summer adventure!), the minute my daughter came into the world, I had to be honest with myself that while a "family friendly" festival, it was no place for my kid. She was only a week old when it happened last year so we obviously passed. This year I considered going without her but realized that might be just a messy as she is now an (almost) one year old who still relies heavily on her mama. Sure, I'll miss camping out for a weekend, being filthy, hanging out with great friends while seeing great bands from morning till late night but my daughter will only be little once and no festival is worth us both being miserable for an entire weekend. That being said, you can guarantee I'll be back just as soon as I feel she's ready. And trust me, at least for my kid, even though Pickathon has camping, it's far too noisy for adults to sleep to say nothing of a kid who likes her white noise machine!

As a fellow Portlander, I was amazed to see how well all your succulents did and was going to ask the secret before actually reading of your winter greenhouse. I got excited for a minute to think I might actually be able to grow all of these things too! Alas, perhaps I'll stick with the hostas and other perennials that don't require a winter hot house :) Thanks for the great inspiration nonetheless though!

After posting how much I disliked the last tour I saw, I think I've died and gone to Apartment Therapy House Tour heaven with this one. Your home is absolutely spectacular and my only complaint is that you didn't feel ready to show off the rest of the house. I'm dying to see the bedrooms, bathrooms and exterior so I can complete my fantasy of living in your home. Truly inspiring. Thank you.

The cheap contractor grade doorknobs in our house are slowly falling off one by one. We were shocked at the price of replacements that are not even high end but just a nicer finish so for now, we're living without them as they come off. I'm starting to wonder why we need them at all :)

I guess I'm the only Debbie Downer here when I say, house tour? Really? Seemed like a tour of tiny collections with only a smattering of house shots thrown in. Do we really need to see 4 different angles of the same mannequin form? Is there something wrong with choosing your favorite and going with that one? This was one of the largest groups of photos I've seen of a tour topping out at almost 60 and I still don't feel like a have a good grasp of the layout and total feel of the house. I have an excellent grasp of their love of collecting, but not much beyond that. I want architecture, room design, outdoor living. I definitely did not get those elements in this tour.

In a consenting adult's room, great. In a baby's room? Not so much. Babies are easily overstimulated and to force them to stare at something so busy (in addition to the busy mobile over the crib) seems torturous. Babies do well in calm spaces and like busyness in places where it can be easily escaped if desired.

Cool look for an older child or adult's space though!

To say that "propping" is a new phenomenon is somewhat ridiculous. Did none of you have grandmothers who collected and displayed crystal or dolls? Grandfathers who proudly displayed trophies and medals? True, there are those who hire designers who prop their homes with items that meet a certain design standard but don't play into the interests of the homeowners themselves. Many of us though do much propping around our homes that reflects who we are and where our interests lie.

It's true, the vintage cameras on my bookshelves are not being used to shoot a weekend adventure, but I love taking photographs, some of these were my father's and others I've collected over the years. Even if vintage camera collections became "chic", these would still reflect who I am. This article did a poor job distinguishing between propping done with intention and that done because it was popular or seen on a design site.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! We're focusing on a massive backyard redesign right now so though we may eventually demolish it, we'll be keeping it for awhile. We had talked about the idea of a bench briefly but after reading all these comments, we may just do that. This is the very front of our house looking out over our gorgeous front yard. I also really liked the cold frame idea. Maybe we can make it a multi-use zone. Eventually, we will repair and reside which will take care of any previous damage and prevent further rot issues.

Unless this is dramatically cheaper than a ready made fixture, the time it would take to build seems to negate paying a lot for something "high design". Also, I can't help but see a giant light bulb. I want to love the shape but it just isn't grabbing me. I do enjoy the forms that make up the light and the colors though!

Based on the height of the strings and what I can see of the plants from your picture, they are hops, not beans. Hops grow at an astounding rate (sometimes a foot per day). They will also look beautiful and grow back every year.

I have two of these beauties but they are both indoor plants and couldn't be easier to care for. A soak in a bowl of water once every week or two and they grow and flourish. Seems like doing this with outdoor plants would require almost daily soaking.

We converted our breakfast nook into our daughter's playroom since we also have a dining room. Though I miss being able to dine in the sunniest room in the house on occasion, it's such a cozy space to spend time in with her.
