My pig's snout usually has mud on it.

I would love to like whisky or brandy or any of those types of things but I just can't seem to. I'm a diehard wino, I guess.

Tea & pomegranate! Great idea. If you don't want caffeine you could sub and decaf tea I suppose. I wonder if grape would work instead of pomegranate? Newman's grape juice is very good.

This looks delicious. Can't wait to try.

Ruth is wrong. Homemade grape jam is delicious on a PBJ, and not inferior to homemade strawberry jam. However, strawberry jam is the #1 choice on a plain PBJ. I also believe you would not need to microwave the sandwich if the bread is soft enough to begin with.

The very best way to make a PBJ, if calories are no obstacle, is to make a layer of barbequed Fritos sandwiched inside. Potato chips are good, too. This obviously provides the salt she is looking for, along with a fabulous crunch. And both of these taste better with grape jam, I think.

We milk our own goats and drink the milk raw. Personally I think there are health benefits to drinking it raw, and it tastes great. It's true that raw milk can harbor pathogens, but so can many other foods. Sprouts, for example, and lettuces, have been implicated in outbreaks a number of times.

Careful milk handling is essential. I'm not sure I would drink raw milk that came from an outside source unless I knew the farmer personally and saw how they handled it. Who knows what protocol the farm in Oregon followed?

I'm another one who doesn't understand the need for this post. I have lots of friends who don't care to drink. Whatever floats your boat. I don't do pot, but some of my friends do. My husband and a number of our friends don't eat meat; I love it. As the hostess, all I am concerned about is making sure everyone has something to make them happy. I try to remember everyone's preferences, but I don't always. Plus, people's preferences in food and alcohol tend to change over time.

I do like placemats, but I can't do plastic. Call me a snob. But I did recently get rid of numerous sets of placemats of various types that came out of the wash wrinkled every time. Who needs that? What I have left are some tapestry ones, some quilted ones, and one set that I picked up at TJ Maxx that is made out of little pieces of wood all linked together. All of those are pretty easy to keep clean. Actually, I find these are easier for me to keep clean than plastic. I hate how you wipe those down and then they never get dry and then you put them in the drawer but they stick together because they're still kind of damp. LOL

Isn't that called a "cracker" when it's savory? How is it a cookie?

I have stainless steel and I don't know why it's popular. I always had cast iron porcelain until now and my old sinks were MUCH easier to keep clean. The SS always looks nasty, scratched and stained. Maybe just an old sink or something, I don't know (the kitchen was remodeled 20 years ago so probably it is), but I long for a nice new Kohler sink. They have so many pretty finishes now. Sigh. Someday soon, I hope.

Wow, people with "food issues" don't get invited? How narrow minded is that?

People really can't help what they like and don't like, and some people have stronger reactions to food flavors than others. I was brought up to eat pretty much everything, but my son mostly lives on macaroni and cheese. I know some people in my circle of friends are vegan, some vegetarian, some have allergies to some foods, etc. i try to make sure there are a couple of things everyone can eat. If nothing else, there is usually good homemade bread! frankly a bigger issue for me is having a potluck and someone showing up with a Marie Callendar's pie instead of homemade. Now there's a person with real "food issues"!

It's more about the friendship and people, and not about people's food likes and dislikes, isn't it?

I'm not a big music person in general but I always try to have some background music playing. It boosts the energy at a party. Otherwise, every pause in the conversation seems like a deadly silence that must be filled. :D

I like soft rock, jazz, blues, "latin/world" music (Cesaria Evora, Pink Martini, Ottmar Liebert), stuff like that. If you don't know what's popular or hip, you can always see what's playing at someplace like Starbucks or a cool store that sells music CDs. And if your taste is different than other people's, isn't that a good thing?

I can think of few vegetables, that would be best cooked by boiling. I'm old enough that I have no bias against boiling - except that it generally results in less flavorful vegetables. Possibly you would want to boil lima beans, and, occasionally, potatoes.

"let the soft animal of your body love what it loves"

What a wonderful line!!

I have to say this all gets easier as you get older. At my age, I don't care what's trendy and what's not. I've been ahead of and behind trends all my life.

I keep misreading the headline as "POTABLE Lunch Recipes"....

It must be the St. Patrick's Day influence.

I have a white tiled kitchen counter/backsplash. It is not new, it is old and impossible to get really clean. Even if it were new it would be a bear to try and clean. I would never, ever have a tiled counter unless I was so destitute that was all I could afford. Which, given the size of my kitchen and the cost involved, is the case for now. If you must have tile, at least get 12" tiles to minimize the amount of grout.

I finally got rid of the awful Dansk enameled pot I had for years. Bought in in C&B or PB years ago. It got nasty in pretty short order. Give me some nice All Clad any day.
