"Can I recycle a slate counter from our kitchen island to an outdoor table surface?"

Why are you asking if you can do this or not? Of course you can, its your idea.

But I am really confused. Why are you renovating this kitchen?
Its actually an amazing kitchen...Unless your living in the Bridle Path I don't understand the reno in the first place.

In regards to leaving slate outside, that depends on many aspects...you could google " slate outdoors" and read about people who have used slate tile outdoors and see how it holds up.

I think this is fantastic!

What does everybody think about doing updates like this, ( and the painting of the cabinets) without the landlords approval?

I personally think if it's going to look better, be functional, and make you happier, most landlords should be OK with the changes. *should*....

But that's not always the case...

P.S. I Hope the LL likes the changes the OP made!!! I would if I were them!

Using cut up shoe boxes to divide things in underwear drawers is great.

My #1 get to sleep and stay asleep tool is "Sleep Soundly" for the iphone, not sure about android. Its about 30 mins long and usually gets me to sleep every time. And I have crazy insomnia somettimes.

Having another body/cat/fluffy in the bed to cuddle is also a plus. White Noise is also really helpful. I just had my fan die the other week and have been going nutso at night trying to create a similar noise atmosphere. White noise app's are great, but not the same. I have a de-humidifier in the room right now but its a bit too loud and de-humidifying. The only other fan I have is industrial and the metal on metal rattles like crazy.

Time for a new fan it seems!

"I was born into a generation of ninnies. It has made me tired...

...Adulthood is when we wake up, if we do at all. Exposure to the wider variety of things, and having to rely on them, makes them become true and occasionally important. Some things work barely or not at all, while others work so perfectly that they make us take notice, not just of their efficiency or effectiveness but of their grace, the inventiveness they embody, and their unassuming beauty.

As this appreciation blossomed within me, it became obvious that the greatness of things is everywhere, requiring only the patience and the temperament to notice. Utility, beauty, art, permanence, and craftsmanship sometimes come bundled in one thing, and that thing is then Great and Perfect. Anything from a bottle of pop to a cigarette lighter to a giant machine that makes things can be both Great and Perfect, and appreciating them as they pop up in our lives is the essence of Paul Lukas’s doctrine of inconspicuous consumption.

As I became aware of things myself, I realized there were others who were aware of things. Endeavoring to find them, my gaze instinctively moved to the mantelpiece, bookshelf, cabinet, or closet when I entered a new space. Were they bedecked with brilliant things? What art or science lives here? Are these people Aware?..."

Isn't it obvious? Each and every piece needs to be the EXACT same color and finish. If they aren't, the house gremlins will come out at night and eat your furniture. duh.

I've had my Ikea Karlstad for about 2 1/2 years and it still looks great... I'm saving up for the chaise lounge. I would go for that if you don't want to spend the extra $$$.

why would they cover it in paper and then paint it ? why not just paint it pink if you wanted it pink? to be honest, not mean, just honest, it kind of makes it look cheap.... which is something to say about an ikea piece.

The thing that irks me the most......that the first comment has been deleted. User *Sisyphean seemed to have posted something that two people commented about after. Somebody must have been jealous that it was taking away from the article above and deleted it. Is it strange that i think of that as Typical?

All I think about when I come on AT now is how there is a lack of good posts, and how I'm being bombarded with advertising ( Clorox products nonetheless- when really the best things to use are water, vinegar, and baking soda if you read any good comments here about cleaning.) Its like its pointless to even give your own opinion here anymore. Unless its PRO AT its DELETED...And thats what irks me.
