Jamie Oliver is determined to get Britons (and now North Americans) cooking and has a great teaching website set up called Jamie's Home Cooking Skills (http://www.jamieshomecookingskills.com/). It's meant to accompany a high school level cooking course in schools - but it assumes that you're starting from the beginning with no knowledge. Lots of great video clips on knife skills, planning meals, etc. Best Food Blogs For Novice Cooks? Good Questions |

Jamie Oliver has a website (http://www.jamieshomecookingskills.com/) called Jamie's Home Cooking Skills that is the companion to a high-school level course that he's developed to teach teens how to cook. The videos are particularly good on how to set up your kitchen, knife skills, etc., as well as basic recipes to master. I've encouraged my teenaged son to consult this site for tips and ideas - and he's started to cook for the family (and we get his friends to help with dinners when they stay for a meal at our house)! Sure enough, there was a posting on boozy granitas from July 2009 (http://www.thekitchn.com/roundup-icy-slushy-granita-90171), and there was a link to a specific recipe for poached pink grapefruit (with Campari) served over pink grapefruit granita (http://www.marthastewart.com/348998/poached-grapefruit-grapefruit-granita?autonomy_kw=liqueur%20granita&rsc=header_1) - Perfect! When I saw "pink grapefruit" pavlova on the list above, it made me start thinking about a pink grapefruit granita that I had last summer - I'm going to seek out a recipe now to put in my dessert file (I'll start by searching right here on The Kitchn)! 5 Dairy-Free Desserts for Warm Weather |

I actually love the look of this - organizing by colour is very attractive (especially if your cookbooks are out on view all the time like these) - and I found myself feeling quite calm as I looked at these photographs. Great idea! Would You Ever Organize Your Cookbooks by Color? |

Thanks for featuring Canadian icewine - but there's a wee typo in the article ... the largest producer of icewine in Canada is called Inniskillin (http://www.inniskillin.com/index.cfm?). Wine Words: Icewine |

My husband loooooves lemon-y desserts / sweets, so I'm always on the lookout for new recipes featuring lemons! These look absolutely fabulous - I'm bookmarking this recipe - I'll get the kids to help me make them for Father's Day brunch. Mmmmmmmm - lemons! Fish (even in a foil packet) cooked at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours will be a piece of shoe leather - NOT what I would want to serve at a dinner party! I clicked on the link to the original recipe and saw that it recommended popping the packets into a 400 degree oven for 18 - 22 minutes ... Easy Entertaining Idea: Foil Packet Dinners |

I'm clearly on the beef goulash wavelength, as I found a similar recipe on Allrecipes.com (Chef John's Beef Goulash) and it was so good that my family requested it twice in 2 weeks, and my 15 year old son declared that the sauce was "pure flavour"! It was a huge hit in our house. Late Winter Recipe: Beef Goulash Recipes from The Kitchn |

I absolutely love my Rival Crock-Pot (7 quart), the same one that is in the photograph above (except mine is white). It's great for pulled pork, chili, pot roasts, soups, etc. - we are a family of four and I use mine at least once a week. Which Slow Cooker Do You Recommend? Good Questions |

We, too, have a toe kick head register in our kitchen ... it's lovely and toasty on the toes, especially on winter mornings. Only problem is, our cat has also discovered it and can often be found in front of it doing an imitation of a throw rug! Makes food prep in that area of the kitchen a challenge ... I second this recommendation! I have recently been clearing out my backlog of food-related magazines, but I refuse to let go of my collection of back issues of "Everyday Food" - I have them organized by season and will delve into them for inspiration when I'm doing my weekly menu planning. As Lmj816 says, they're quite creative and seasonal with ingredients; everything in each recipe is readily available a a reasonably stocked grocery store; and, best of all, the recipes ALWAYS turn out well! I often order Campari (with orange juice and/or soda) as an aperitif when I'm out at a restaurant, but somehow I don't have it in my home bar. I'm totally with you! Everyday Food is my absolute favourite magazine - from the size (I can pop it in my purse and take it to work for meal planning over my lunchhour) to the ease of the recipes ... everything I've ever made from Everyday Food has turned out well! I've recommended it to so many people, and given gift subscriptions too! I have every issue (except for the very first one) since it started. My family loves it when I spatchcock a chicken for roasting (in fact, it's my "go to" method for roast chicken these days) - somehow, it seems that the skin gets crispier, and I usually do the chicken in the broiler pan with the rack suspended over sliced potatoes and onions - a quick salad or a green vegetable and in about 35-45 minutes dinner is ready! I started doing this after I tried this recipe in Everyday Food magazine, and now there's a 5 minute video with Sarah Carey demonstrating it (http://www.marthastewart.com/903444/quick-roasted-chicken-potatoes-onions-and-watercress). Havarti is a wonderful cheese that is always in our fridge, because it's my 11 year old daughter's favourite! It is definitely the "go to" cheese for most of the sandwiches made by all the members of our household. Thanks for putting it into the spotlight and giving havarti the praise it deserves. Fabulous place - and I, too, am a big fan of THREADLESS! I have been buying T-shirts from there (mainly for my 2 kids, but also for me and my husband) and they always get comments ... primarily along the lines of "What a COOL T-shirt; where'd you get it?" Craig's Tiki Hut House Tour |

KrisTor - I'm in Toronto and I just contacted Nikolaou Restaurant Equipment (629 Queen St. West, (416) 504-6411) and spoke to Louis Nikolaou who is ordering me one of these pots from Kuhn Rikon for $39 + tax. That was the best deal of the Kuhn Rikon retailers in Toronto that I contacted. (I couldn't find them in stock at any of the stores I contacted.) Hope this helps. I remember my mom having these for picnic/bbq foods in the 1960s and 1970s (here in Canada)! I've got to get some of these, 'cause we were invited to a bbq at a friend's house on Canada Day (July 1) and I felt like I spent half my time shooing flies away from the appetizers/snacks. Could have used some of these food covers then! Shoo Fly: Food Tents for BBQs & Picnics |
