I had the same dilemma as you - searching for the perfect gray!!! What we finally went with after many samples and research is

Cape May Cobblestone by Ben Moore

It is neutral but still dark enough to make a statement, it has no noticeable blue/brown/green/purple undertones, it is right in the middle gray, I did my open concept living/dining area and absolutely LOVE it!
