clever, but what's the point really when the rest of the room is clearly oriented and arranged for TV watching? makes the now-you-see-TV-now-you-don't trick seem more gimmicky than anything. Apartment Therapy Unplugged | Hiding the Television Behind Artwork |

if you're any good at researching yourself, going to open houses, arranging showings through the seller's agent, then you should ultimately choose Redfin as your realtor. they are low-overhead, mostly online but do have real and competent people, and the perk is that they give you a rebate of 2/3 of the buyer's agent commission. I bought my condo through them last year and 1 week after closing received a check for my $8000 rebate! they limit you to the number of showings/hours you can use them before submitting an offer, but once you are at the offering stage, they handle EVERYTHING, including arranging inspection, preparing documents, etc. i'm a little surprised no one here's mentioned them yet. www.redfin.com Apartment Therapy Boston | Good Questions: Advice for First-Time Home Buyers? |

KATE! This is too eerie. I also own a bowfront Cambridge condo, similar size and vintage, and I have never seen someone decorate a space with such similar (some identical) elements, colors, ideas, and sources. Presumable similar budget even. I've only been in my place for a few months, so it still has some obsessional finessing before I submit it to apttherapy, but now I'm wondering if they'd even feature it because it's so similar to yours. Same pix system in my long narrow hallway, black upright Steinway in the dining room, and is that a Roost ceramic log vase from Koo de Kir on the mantle? Creepy in a delightful way. i can't use up all the accumulated styrofoam this way, but come spring, i plant lots of flowerpots and windowboxes. peanuts and styrofoam at the bottom are great for drainage to prevent root rot, and don't contibute to the weight like broken terra cotta pieces do. i am so annoyed with apartmenttherapy for spilling. i keep very few secrets in life, and Todd Farm is one of them. whether you score the $3 alabaster lamp or the perfect bakelite piece, or you simply wander through a beautiful field in a beautiful area on a Sunday morning conversing with many hilarious heavily accented vendors, there is no more quintessentially New England way to spend a Sunday morning. my aunt and uncle refer to it as "church". for anyone who wants the look and educational value of a world map mural, buy a world map shower curtain (tons when I googled). We had one growing up and I would spend waaay too long on the toilet, fixated on the African capitals, Russian rivers, etc. As a result, my geography knowledge is formidable. madampince, isn't Emergency Preparedness, with 6 months of food storage, practically Mormon doctrine? My LDS friend explained it as preparation for the apocalypse, and it was something Church-mandated essentially. She was one of 7 kids. I saw their stockpile. Impressive to say the least. right ON, guys. i'm blown away by your place. pretty much everything about it. it's so organic in the truest sense--clearly born out of those who live there and not some design-y ideal imposed from outside. it's always been my dream to seamlessly incorporate my worldly acquisitions with all my beautiful less exotic exotic wares, but somehow i can't get the Bolivian textile to work with anything, and my rustic Guatemalan crafts just don't seem to fit with my other stuff. the first sign of civilization we 4 girls spotted as we emerged from a muddy buggy 4-day hike through the Costa Rican rainforest was a tiny grocery store. we bought mangoes and vanilla ice cream; together, they were the best thing i've ever tasted. i have this ceramic vase consisting of a pregnant torso, and one of the arms is bent with hand on hip (so maybe it's a mug?). i bought it at a flea market for my friend who is obsessed with pregnant bellies, then decided it was too cute to part with. if you do the curtain thing, maybe best to install a simple hook on one or both sides (called a holdback, i think), so you could tuck your beads or shells or fabric quickly out of the way, then release when you're done. i agree that even sliding something back and forth on a curtain rod would be too much effort and that it would end up open all the time, defeating the entire purpose.
