i use the peugeot for my salt (only corse in my house!); it works fine and looks lovely, but the pain is that you have to always remember to tighten the bolt at the top, and my bf, who owns the pepper mill tells me the same is always happening to her.
other set back is that it doesn't hold that much salt/pepper, meaning filling up quite often (pepper once a week, if you use pepper every day, like I do)
for my pepper, i use the classic wooden italian huge peppermill (over 70 cm high!!) fill it once in a blue moon, looks lovely in every kitchen, rustic feel and modern, and great effect at the dinner table.

have a wicker basket under the sink to store it. so, I put it away, but it's not out of sight, if you're on the toilet seat, at least

answered yes, when in fact I have two massive (the width of the kitchen) all glass doors leading out to the balcony.
and the kitchen faces the brightest side of the appartment, which means that in spring and summer, from 12 till 4 in the afternoon I actually often have to lower the shutters half way to avoid being blinded by the sun, and turning the kitchen into a roasting oven!
but oh, how I love them

i guess if you're talking about portobello's you could probably run them under the tap (they have no great flavour anyway - imo - so even if they do absorb a little water, so what)
but i would never ever ever wash a porcino mushroom with water, nor with chantarelles, or other wild mushrooms.
and why does foodygirl say they grow in poo?
they might do in the states, certainly not here in italy.
portobellos are farm grown (in soil), porcini and other wild mushrooms, you might buy in the market but they have always been hand picked in woods (that, along with the fact that if the season has not been favourable, some mushrooms are simply impossible to find, makes them so expensive)
if you ever invest in fresh porcini PLEASE don't wash them in water, simply scrape di earth away with the back of a nife or a cooking brush

in italy, if you ask for a caffelatte, they'll make a long espresso coffee (so the taste is not as sharp as a normal espresso), and then add hot steamed (because they have the steamer on the coffee machine. but heating milk on a stove is fine too), serve it in a high glass and always always always use semi-fat milk.
Bars (what u would call a cafè in the US - where we have our cappuccio and cornetto in the mornings) only make cappuccino and caffelatte using semifat, as it makes for a creamier consistency and the taste is so much nicer.
you will never see a bar using full fat, believe me. if you choose full fat, (don't ask me why) all you'll end up with is a watery, flat cappuccino or caffelatte.
but do buy good milk, organic, if you can find it.

any time I tried backing with silicone, my cakes ended up burned at the bottom (ok, I confess it's happened with nonstick pans too, but blame the soprano's, not the cook! they distracted me!!!)

it's the kind of colour which adds warmth and cosiness to a room

gas stove top, which is the most common, here in Italy, and I find is the best to use when cooking.
i recently got a whole new kitchen and for safety reasons (young child) got a heatproof door electric oven, and will never go back to gas again!
the pain with gas ovens is they take a while to start up, and never heats quickly and high enough, imo.

when I was 6 months preg we spent 3 days on the amalfi coast and then another 7 in the 5 terre in the north of Italy.
if you can I strongly reccomend taking a break together, 'cos you can forget pleasant dinners in some nice restaurant and strolling around towns hand in hand for a very long time
soon we'll be going on a 7 day holiday together, just the two of us, after almost 3 years, and boy do we need it (exilarating and heart breaking at the same time, 7 days without our little monster!)

i have a vintage Grundig console which used to belong to my granparents. i think it's from the early 50's. my mum remembers always being in the house as she was growing up.
it's massive and in dark wood, and is nowadays covered with family pictures, and used as storage space for xmas decorations and such.
i also have a glass pane which belonged in my grandparents house depicting the night, which we took when we sold the house, and that's dated early 1900's.

it's traditional here in italy to give the neo-mum a diamond ring or diamond something as a commemoration of the event.
the darling father of my son and i don't go for these things.
if you're gonna give me diamonds, do it cos you want to give me a present cos you love me, not because i gave you a child! my son is to me a mutual gift we gave one another, i did the 'labour work', but we're in this together, and i'm not an athlete who wants a medal for having given birth!
on the other hand, the day the three of us got home from hospital, i found a dozen red roses for me and a dozen blue roses for my little terror. i dried and kept one of each.

i love the blue stipe, I've found exactly what my white wall at home needs, but the pineapples and the rug i just can't bring myself to like.
lovely pink sofas, and lovely ensamble overall.

i vote for keeping them on. nice or not, comments are useful, interesting and part of what makes this site so appealing.
i do agree with those who claim that when you enter a competition you have to be ready to take the good with the bad, it's part of the deal.
even if at times i think the bad comments do go a little overboard! then again, so be it, just ignore and take the good.
but don't take the comments away, pls!
