POWDER COAT. If this is a piece you really like and you want to ensure a quality finish, definitely get it powder coated professionally. Worth every penny, I've had it done on chandeliers and it's fantastic.

Orange will be like Halloween in your bedroom all year long! yipppeeeeee!

No, but seriously... paint everything the same color as the wall. You wanted a Black Fox accent wall so really make it a Black Fox accent wall.

Lighting is impractical. Even if you put an outlet up there, how do you turn the lights on? Climb up and plug it in? They would never be used. So the other option is to hardwire the lights with a switch and that's not such a small job.

Not a fan of accent walls. Brights *POPS* of color won't look good with the tan color currently on the walls. Really the only accent you could do would be a darker shade of tan. I would not suggest that approach.

I don't necessarily have a specific idea for you BUT - what you really need to do is integrate that space with the equally odd space above your archway. That way, you're not filling an awkward niche but filling an awkward L-shaped space three dimensionally. Use it to your advantage and make it a real design feature instead of adding random trendy or designy junk to a useless space.

I think when you have a table big enough for FOURTEEN chairs, that's a serious statement. if you had 14 of those chairs i see in the background i think it would be great, and not too formal at all.

go for all the same. the mixie mixie thing is way over used now.

I HATE HATE HATE units like this with only two legs. i realize it's attached to the wall, but put back legs on it anyway. it looks like it's going to fall over.

Buy two large red lampshades and install them on your bedside lamps. Then, turn the two lamps upside down and hang them from the ceiling.

sorry but in a space truly without natural light, white is the best option.

i lived in a garden apartment and the previous tenants tried to "brighten" up the place with a really bright teal and it didn't work at all. we painted it bright white and it worked out fine. you can always go back and add color through furniture and accessories.

sagekitten - if you need to brighten a room with no natural light, paint it white. end of story.

how can an idea as awesome as a swing in the living room be made so incredibly boring?

that's not a fun swing at all. that's like a 70 year old couple's gliding rocker on their white front porch in the country type of swing. total snooze fest.

love the idea, love the space itself but the execution is total blah.

This is much better than the V but it's kind of clunky. I didn't do any research but I'm guessing this is made of wood, possibly plastic. Should have made it out of a thinner, stronger material it would be nicer - i.e. metal.

Books are clunky to begin with and if you put them on a big clunky shelf it all looks way too heavy in the room.

Take a walk in the woods. All kinds of em free for the taking.

and then when this whole fake tree trunk / animal head / antler craze is out of style in 7 minutes you can throw it right back in the woods and still feel good about yourself.

I like these very much, but you can see the problem in the lower picture - makes it hard to hang 2 or more bikes. They could potentially fit on top of each other on an 8' tall wall but it would be tight. Also, especially in NYC, we rarely have enough empty wall space to hang a bike like that. The racks which hang bikes vertically are much more efficient for small spaces.

Also, if you have a women's bike or anything without a horizontal top tube, this thing won't work.

A huge tree on the floor next to the sideboard which is kind of asymmetrical and hangs over the sideboard.

Here's my concern with built-ins- Resale.
If you own the place and plan to stay, then do whatever you want, built in or otherwise.

If you plan on selling in the not-too-distant future, I wouldn't go for built-ins. Most potential buyers would see the bar seating as an asset.

Agree with Seaside. These make almost no reference to the holidays. Chairs stacked in a pyramid? It looks like a card Herman Miller would send out to all its clients at the holidays.
