PS lisa-I don't own an ikea catalog, and haven't shopped there-but hey, generalizations ALWAYS work, right?

elspeth I was referring to the gold brocade couch, turquoise wall hanging, mirroring at the top of the dorrway and uneven birch paneling-sorry anywhere else it would be slammed-regardless of the price (does cost make something better?) oh, and the mirrored fireplace (unless, of course, being the Cretan that I am, I am missing it's monetary and artistic value)

wow what a bunch of snarky opinions; I guess I am oh-so-gauche for having the nerve to express an opinion; I didn't say CHEAP clutter, or TACKY clutter, or anything more negative than "dated", which by the way was in reference to the color-scheme (unless that is valuable and Christies-able as well); secondly, I was looking at it from a "could you live comfortably in it" standpoint. I don't think that I said that it wasn't "an amazing collection"-But of course, as usual, people have to rush to comment to prove how knowledgeable, and well, supremely cool they are-YAY! good for you! You are sooooo much cooler than I am-sorry, while I would certainly love a couple of the paintings, and wouldn't mind the $$ it cost-it's still cluttery. But of course we ARE on the website all about modest homes and a modest lifestyle, silly me!

1) the mimosa color is about exactly the complement color of the iris-coincidence? I smell a conspiracy theory (jk)

2) the mimosa color reminds me of my older sister's "groovy" yellow and orange bedroom circa 1973

2) that color, in large quantities would get old fast-at least to me it would be just too garish

I agree with the comments against the pink-I hate cutesy things in any genre, but especially tools; buy good quality, well-made tools-then donate some money or time to breast cancer;

Jezebella-I personally know a woman who burned her bra publicly (back in the day, so to speak)

1) Johnny Lydon would tear up the poster, wee on it, and then sue the people who made it

2) Neil Diamond would turn the typo on the poster into a catchy, can't-get-it-out-of-your-head-guilty-pleasure-turn-up-the-radio-when-you're-alone-in-the-car song out of it

I live in a old historic town; the street has a mix of brick "townhouses" from the early 1900's (some a little earlier) and brick single homes like mine (1890's) A couple are painted, but most are natural old brick; My street runs exactly east/west, and in the evening the west end gets hit by the sun as it sets, and all of the different ages and gradations in the brick show; they go from a seemingly similar color to lovely warm shades varying from a warm coppery gold to terracotta to almost maroon; it only lasts for a few minutes but it really transforms the street

I tend to avoid pork-I don't eat much meat-but every once and a while I have a "nostalgic" meal of kale cooked down with a little salt pork to flavor, homemade corn bread and sweet pickle vinegar and Iced-tea; if I am really motivated, I'll also fry some chicken...

it looks like some kind of industrial funnel-like they would use in making beer or bread or candy or something-since is all green, I am thinking copper-so maybe a small brewery's hop-holder? Just a guess anyways. I think that I would worry about it coming loose and plunking somebody on the head-when I was in art school in philly, a TV went out a window and almost hit a cop.....(random free-association)

I have three teenage sons; I am a nurse in an ACCU-where there's lots o' bad germs; I can't imagine the dirt and stink that would adorn my walls with the shoe thing-what a pleasant site for visitors!

I like the thought of orange-if you really want want bold; the blue of you counter looks almost blue-green and kind of flat-I would avoid pastels, it would make everything look washed out; you need something that pops. even a rusty pumpkin-y color would look nice.....

speaking as a nurse who works with the elderly often, I am with msunreliable's suggestions-colored coded wings, floors, and larger door numbers-in a plain font; I'd also recommend, as someone else did, giving the seniors some kind of voice in the selection-it's psychologically important to have some choice, especially when your independance may be limited. that's my 0.02...
