Old money, preppy and brushed brass. I completely agree. Its what I'm telling myself is neo-traditional prep and our house is going to go all out. But yes, I think that there will be a neon pop in that neo-traditional prep... so maybe it should be called neo-traditional prep pep!

IDEAL MOTHER'S DAY: A day with my family in "nature" (beach picnic; easy day hike with a waterfall; fun at a local park and a Triple A game? - something...) with a good meal out as a follow up WHILE professional cleaners reverse-ransack our house.

Cute baby clothes with lots of snaps and feet. So maybe I'm just a lazy mom - but I hate the hassle of those things and have only put #2 in such things three times of my own volition and purely b/c the people who gave them to her were coming to visit (ok wait - there is that one that is polar fleece and super cute that we wore once to take a brisk walk in the baby bjorn to Starbucks). I LOVE the baby gowns (for both my boy and my girl!)

My husband "bet" me to take a picture a day for a year - it didn't pan out ( i made it 48 days til a terrible car accident and just fell behind) but I have made if a bit of a habit to take a picture of just about every day and really capture a moment from our lives. The goal was to put together just such a yearbook - maybe this year is the year!

Ok - BUT. What about Lead? Lead poisoning via DUST is a big thing here in the States. HEPA filters clean down to size .3mu particles and lead is size 3.0 so by default it should get easily caught by a purifier. What do you guys think about putting HEPA filter air purifiers in older homes that the EPA cautions might be lead hazardous? (I agree ozone and ionization are probably more trouble than they are worth)

I'm actually really ok with the Sesame street gang. For me its less about marketing (though I hate the consumerism my 3 year old drips from his mouth - and we don't watch commercials! - all his screen time is netflixed) and more about what the toy represents. If they are "educational" in nature as opposed to lame, banal, or just bad entertainment which is really for older kids but little kids watch (90% of Nickelodeon) I'm ok with it. So there is a lot of book origination overlap but just as many PBS characters.

But ANGRY BIRDS - yes it is a phenom. Every kid at my son's preschool is obsessed with their Dad's iphone or their ipad (I can't believe how many of these kids have their own ipad!!) and playing angry birds on it. My son was only allowed to ask for one thing for Christmas and he asked for the "black angry bird that explodes".
and he got it.
Because my mom got me a pair of skids in the 80s even though they were totally stupid and I'm embarrassed by them now...

Save yourself the aggravation of having to take it all down in a half a doz years or so when water gets between the tile and the board and creates problems and just take down the tile on the wall now. Putting in wallboard (get the special drywall for bathrooms) is really easy and then applying the pvc beadboard or wainscoting is super easy - a glue job.

My hubby and I did this in our tiny bathroom in our apt (which we now rent) about 4 years ago when I was 7 months pregnant. It really was easy, is super low maintenance, and still looks great!

meh.

In the middle of a site design for a big project myself I feel your pain on making choices for clarity, design, and for reader usability.

The new site is cleaner and possibly easier to navigate once ppl learn the ropes but does lack the warmth/community feel I had visually from reading OhDeeDoh daily and hopping over to the other sites when links at the bottom of the page caught my eye...

The rebranding of the names to more generic channel headers - I'm not sure is the best choice community-wise but is smart to pull everyone together under one umbrella and create a sense of centrality for AT as the core.
Not sure multiple listing of posts in multiple channels will be effective. I don't want to have to scroll through something I've already read somewhere else...hmm.
I didn't mind the cross posting in the old design b/c it was a cross link to the other sites...not just a duplicate posting...

I agree that sans serif for the comments is tiring on the eyes... but the larger font size is helpful.

Good luck!

I like to play a game a friend introduced me to - I love it "this much". Its a variation on absofrikenlutey.
When buying ANYTHING - (works esp well with clothes) - before you look at the price say outloud "I love it "this much" and put a price in there. A pair of "I love it "10 bucks" shorts that turn out to be 25 bucks. Put them back. A pair of "I love it 80 bucks! I look amazing!" jeans that are 40 bucks... buy two pair and don't buy jeans again for a year or two :)

Love the "how much" question for volunteering too... "I love helping design curriculum for free for a young colleague just starting out for the price of treating me to Starbucks when my kid is in preschool but not enough to hire a babysitter and meet you at your classroom 45 mins away..."

one of my favorite glasses (esp for hot chocolate in the winter - don't know why...) is a rinsed out, label off Bonne Maman jelly jar (http://www.bonnemaman.us/)...
I get the preserves whenever they are on sale and when they are all used up we rinse and use.
But every once in a while my MIL or a sitter recycles them out of the sink not realizing they are now glasses so we still have a low count...

This is going to sound egregious but I had 6? maybe 8? CPKs (plus one of those weird hybrid animal kids they came out with - mine was half dog half kid). BUT its a good story. We were totally super dirt poor farmers (my mom was already working an extra job as the cook for the Priests at the catholic school they sent me to to cover my tuition) and for the holidays every year so they could buy presents and have a big christmas dinner my mom got a seasonal job on the ASSEMBLY LINE for Coleco who made... CABBAGE PATCH KIDS! The only perk to the overnight shifts (before she came home to work on the cows at 5am) was that each year she got to buy (at cost) a CPK. So I don't remember their names but I remember all the girls who laughed at my hand-me down clothes looking on in amazement when I brought out my parade of Cabbage Patch dolls - blonde, brunette, premie - boy and girls. I had them all... :)
