I found a similar recipe online, except for margaritas. It calls for cheap-o beer and it'll knock you on your as* if you're not careful. They go down so easily, though, so it's hard to be careful. I might give this a shot at my next party. And take away all the keys.

I have friends that don't drink, but don't mind others drinking. I have no problem bringing whatever alcohol I'm in the mood for when I go visit. I'd also have no problem if they were an alcohol free house.

We must be about the same age..I was a 90's teen, complete with doc martens and flannel. Music from the latter half of the decade is pretty cringe worthy. I already have most of what's on your first playlist, so there's your answer!

I struggle with this regarding my kids. I have 3 boys-10,6,4, and i'm constantly having to remind them to slow down and chew their food at dinnertime. Then ten year old doesn't choke, but he can inhale a plate in seconds if i'm not there eating with them. Being raised by an extremely proper English mom, i'm passing down what she taught us on correct table etiquette. Just last week my six year old choked on a piece of crispy bacon. Heimlich manuever-choked. It's terrifying. Maybe because they're boys and by dinnertime they're famished? Or they have a Pavlovian response whenever they hear silverware clinking? I'd try this, but i'm sure one of the younger two would find a way to suck it down!

John's just tired over his mother always looking over his shoulder and browbeating him. His eyesight's just fine, but acting like it's not is his only defense.

Cooking it in the oven also produces flat crispy strips without all the grease splatter and smell. I line a jelly roll pan and cook it at 400 for 20 minutes, rotating once. Then I keep the grease in a tin can with strainer made esp. for bacon. Made my Sunday mornings sooo much easier once I started doing this. I can focus on the eggs instead.

I love it. I should've realized it was in the bflo area. My inlaws live in a smaller craftsman in So. Bflo with the same gorgeous woodwork. I love looking at the houses when we go visit. You don't see houses like that where I live down south. You've done a beautiful job restoring this old lady to her glory.

Glad you posted this..I hate the skin on apples, cucumbers, and try to peel of most of the strings before I eat a celery stick. Now I won't feel like i'm missing the 'good' nutrients when i'm peeling an apple to eat.

I have three, and I just make food a non issue. Freaking out over McD's or soda just make their views on food worse. You want a snack? Grab a banana.. Daddy's out of town? Pizza delievery and and a two liter 'cause mama's not cooking!

@Lisa: you don't give an infant dairy, so your point is moot. Nice try, though.

I'm also more with the history articles, please. I read once that people in the middle ages would bring their animals in with them at night- -no barns. They slept with pigs, cows, chickens, donkeys, etc. and all their excrement. Not just to keep them from being stolen, but for shared body heat. That's quite the baseline of discomfort for me.

I'd like to put another option on this: choose good sealant. The previous owner of my house installed top of the line maple hardwood downstairs. It's gorgeous. When we purchased we had three little boys under the age of 6. My youngest is now four, but with all the wrestling, hotwheel racing, dropping, throwing, etc. my wood underneath the clearcoat is still in pristine condition. I dog will scratch surfaces (similar to little boys and all their little troubles) but if you coating on top, it won't damage the wood underneath. You will have to re-coat at some point.

Don't pull them off at 145-meat temp. rises as it rests. Pull it off at 140 and let it rest. That was one of the biggest mistakes I made when I first start cooking. I'd only take food off heat once it reached the temperature it was supposed to be , restulting in dry, overcooked food. Now I always take it off 5-10 degrees lower than the temp. I want. Let any meat/poultry rest for a bit to reditribute juices.

My favorite measuring cup started losing markings awhile back. I went to a craft store and bought a fine line paint pen and painted over the fading lines. Good as new! And I use that pen on EVERYTHING now.

I keep the shakers at the table, and use my cupped palm to measure any spices I add during cooking. I think seasoning at the table is a personal preference. I don't think it's my place to 'discourage' additional salt shaking if that's what the person wants. Or by switching s&p shakers to trick guests. That's just nasty.
