Buzzing usually comes from the dimmer, not the bulb. Even then, it's pretty rare. As long as your dimmer is out of earshot, you won't have any problems. 5 Sources for Edison & Vintage Style Bulbs |

It's smart that the designer called it the "bird poop chandelier." Otherwise, people would sit under it and say, "Ew... that looks like the birds are pooping!" Instead, they'll say, "Awesome! It really DOES look like the birds are pooping." Bird Poop Chandelier by Wyatt Little Design Milk |

Another option is ceiling tiles like those used in T-Bar ceilings in offices. A friend of mine glued them to the walls of his band's practice room. They work great and look a lot better than you would think! Using Sound Dampening Tiles at Home |

The idea looks cool, but as a vintage audiophile, I gotta say I think this is a tragedy! Get your record player or receiver fixed or sell it on eBay to someone who will love it. Old audio equipment is almost always repairable. Please don't turn it into a coat rack. DIY Record Player Coat Rack IKEA Hackers |

You've got to be careful with the light source you use for lighting bookshelves. Halogen and incandescent sources emit UV, which deteriorates paper faster than you might think. Some warm white LED rope light running along the underside of the shelves is a better idea, IMHO. Shedding Some Light: Backlit Bookshelves |

I did it when I was a kid! My family of 5 lived in a 500 square foot garage apartment. The house only officially had one bedroom, so my dad took the storage compartments that were build on the low side of the walls, wallpapered them, added a built-in radio, shelf, and tape player, then put a twin size mattress on the floor. I slept in one, my sister in another, and my brother in another. I didn't even know it was weird until I went to a sleepover at a friend's house! Is it OK for Kids to Sleep in the Closet? |

A nice twist on these is to use a silver bowl light bulb. It will direct the light back into the reflector instead of straight out. It makes for a softer glow and just looks cool. Close-Up!: AB Chao's Clamp Lights |

I'm all for self-control, but those just plain forgetful (like me), I'd suggest a vacancy sensor. Tip: Don't use them with CFLs. http://1000bulbs.com/category/motion-occupancy-vacancy-sensors/ What Tricks Do You Use to Remember to Shut Lights Off? |
