We have 3 additions that we love in our house.

- an anchovy at the beginning with the aromatics
- a pint of chicken broth (we use home made with the fat still intact that we keep in the freezer!) to a big pot - this adds a nice lusciousness and makes the sauce thickets with the fat and collegen
- for sauces that are a bit acidic, add a bit of baking soda! Really works! One of the byproducts is sodium, so be sure to wait to salt until after as it might add to the salt content.

I picked 14lbs of figs off of my tree yesterday, without even getting on the ladder and the tree is a good 15 feet tall at least. We've probably gotten 25lbs so far this season with a lot more to come....

I make a really nice cocktail with gin, squeeze a wedge of lemon or lime (usually Lemon for me, since I have a Meyer Lemon Tree in my yard!), rosemary (also from the yard) and a dash of bitters, all over ice. If I want something lighter I add sparkling water.

I'm not sure where the recipe came from or what it's called. We've started referring to it as Benton's Way. :)

We took a a 6 week cross country road trip with our Boston Terrier, Doc, a few years back. In order for our family and friends to keep track of where we went, we created a photoblog for Doc to post all of his pictures: in Las Vegas, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Mt Rushmore, Chicago, Boston, a farm, Bourbon St., Nashville, etc. We have pictures of him in all sorts of places. In order to share it with others, we turned it into a book that we gave as gifts to grandparents and things. They love it, and tragically, Doc passed away very unexpectedly about a year later. We kept his ashes, but the memories from our trip and the book specifically are the most comforting.

My boyfriend loves the Toffeenut syrup at Starbucks in his coffee, and we found that the Torani Almond Roca is a great substitute. We both use it every day.

An interesting approach is to press the burn gently with a free hand or other body part. This cools the burn down slowly to the natural body temperature and is supposed to prevent blistering or shock from cold water/ice/et.

I feel like this could be accomplished with any snap case. I just tried it with my Incase snap case for my iPhone 4 with pretty decent results. I would like to know what makes this case different.

I made a great pasta salad with it, and it's so simple. I toss whole wheat pasta, cherry tomatoes (or diced tomatoes), arugula, feta cheese and and some olive oil to bring it all together. No need for salt because of the salmon and feta, and no need for pepper because of the arugula. It's a great lunch salad.

In Los Angeles I like to get Zapopan Reposado Tequila. It comes in a 1L bottle and usually costs about $10 at Trader Joes or Super King. I'd say it's almost as good as Cazadores at less than 1/3rd the price.

I make a smoked salmon pasta salad. It's really simple and delicious:

small pasta (bowtie, penne, rotini, etc.), smoked salmon, cherry tomatoes, crumbled feta cheese, fresh arugula, all tossed together with olive oil and just a touch of lemon juice.
