I grew up in the suburbs, lived in the city in my 20s (and LOVED it) and now I'm in the suburbs again. Yes, with a baby. It's not ideal and in may ways I am very homesick. But we moved out here because this is where the job is. We didn't have a lot of choice in the matter. My feeling is that the Gen Y-ers will move wherever they need to in order to WORK. This post came along just as I am contemplating a move to a house with nearly the same floorplan and similar rent just a block and a half away. The new place has a big front and back yard, beautifully landscaped, for my toddler to run around in. The old place does NOT. So it is So. Darned. Tempting. Worth it? UG! Moving blows. It's been a while, but if I recall, this was my go-to hangover cure: toss into a blender one banana, one heaping tablespoon creamy peanut butter, one cup of milk, and a handful of ice cubes. Blend until creamy. Drink it with a vitamin and some advil while swearing off alcohol for eternity. Add in the laughter of a good friend and you'll be as right as rain in no time. Some kids are exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life, which basically means that they nurse every two hours round the clock. It makes a sitter very difficult. My son refused a bottle, too, so he was with the mama all the time! Other kids have extreme separation anxiety; they cry nonstop without mom or dad. While this might not be the worst thing in the world, it stresses out baby, sitter, and the absent parents, who then don't think that a night out away from Junior was worth it. This reminds me so much of the lovely space that my mom, who has great taste and a wonderful eye, created for me and my sis when we were kids. Brat that I was, I never liked it. Until now. Sorry I was such a jerk, mom. You rock. A Simply Styled Room for TwoDaffodil Design |

OR, you could use permanent, double sided tape to attach the wallpaper to a large piece of cardboard or foam board (you may have to use several pieces) and hang THAT on the wall, or lean it against the wall for an accent. Or build a rough frame from cheap lumber and stretch the wallpaper over that. Again, lean it against the wall of your choice. Wow. I was surprised to hear about the crib. I bought my crib second hand a a goodwill store for 30.00. It is, indeed, a dropside crib but the manufacturer sent us a free immobilizer to bring it up to code. I checked and double checked all other rules and regulations and am satisfied that it's safe. Of course, of course, my baby hates to sleep in it (he prefers a futon matress on the floor) but that's another thing. New Baby? Buy Secondhand Gear |

So many many things I hate. A lot of these things are in my rental house right now so does that save me from sounding too judge-y?: popcorn ceilings. Vinal blinds (they are always, always filthy.) A million family portraits (I have mine in one small spot from which they cannot be allowed to stray.) Drawers hanging open. Cabinet doors that don't shut. BUGS. Clocks that aren't set to the right time. The TV constantly on. Inspirational words. Piles of junk mail. Kitchy stuff. Furniture shoved against the walls. The AC when it is only 78 degrees outside. Fake flowers. Ew, I Can't Stand That! Design Allergies |

See, Mary was always my favorite. I admire her strength and honesty and even her hardness is not without saving graces. She might not be "nice" but I think she's solid as granite. Downton Abbey Cocktails: Mary |

It's not hard to believe that the alcohol won't all boil off when cooking with wine or spirits, but most recipes don't call for much booze in the first place, and then there is at the least a severe reduction after cooking. Which leads me to ask, does it even matter (healthwise, not sciencewise or moralwise) if there's trace amounts of alcohol left in a recipe? How much alcohol is there in, say, a glass of juice that's been left in the carton for a few days? Recipe: Chocolate Mousse with Olive Oil and Sea Salt |

I don't work, so the vast majority of housework falls to me. However, when I did work and my husband did not work, the vast majority of the housework still fell on me. When we both worked...yep, the majority of housework fell on me. I've tried everything to equalize this arrangement but somehow it stubbornly sticks to the traditional gender rolls. Yes, it's frustrating and yes, I resent it. It has made me think long and hard about the value of my time, and the value of our marriage. But I think the issue is larger than my own personal happiness. And I honestly don't know what to do about it. Personally, or politically. Home Ec.: What is Your Housework Worth? |

Yes, it is delicious and a very good emoliet for skin and hair but beware that no matter how healthful coconut oil is, it is still very caloric and fattening. Just sayin'. Pantry Staples: Trader Joe's Organic Coconut Oil |

Looks much improved! I have a table that is a LOT like that drop-leaf in the center of the room. Mine belonged to my great-grandmother, and was lovingly restored by my parents. Unfortunately, it has warped a bit with age but it' still a great table. Yours looks so beautiful here. Before & After: From 1991 to 21st Century Dining Room |
