I agree with Frank - Fairway is the way to go. I used to make a bi-weekly pilgrimage when I lived up in West Harlem. Now that I'm just around the corner I'm there at least twice a week. The aisles are... cosy, but it has great selection, reasonable prices, and charm (like this http://nyti.ms/cF5LAA).

The centerpiece on my coffee table is a long narrow bowl filled with a couple inches of loose chandelier crystals I got on eBay. It adds just a touch of glitz to my otherwise minimalist apartment. The whole thing positively shimmers if you nestle a few tealights into the crystals.

Style-wise, it's the poor girl's way to mimic decorative touches like the Cellula chandelier or those crystal drum shade ceiling lamps.

The concrete concept is neat, but the face graphics are a little too Han Solo in carbonite for my tastes.

FYI, those are the Anno Unni panel curtains from Ikea. $29.99 for two.

Ugh, no thank you. I have a fondness for modern minimalism but this is chunky and graceless. For that amount of money I'd go with a nice Steinway. Simple, elegant, and they play like butter.

A tip for anyone thinking of doing a project like this - don't use typical white glue as it will cause the paper to wrinkle. Use rubber cement (more like a gel than cement, despite its name) or spray adhesive.

The yellow accents are nice, but what I really want to know is where that lamp mug is from!

If you're looking for a minimalist table that doesn't take up a lot of visual real estate, the Adesso Glacier table is great. It has a spare but elegant design and works well in small spaces since it's mostly glass. I got one off Craigslist and love it.

Your studio is bigger than mine though, so you may be looking for a table that's more of a focal piece. In that case, you might want to go with something like what msjessiemeghan suggested - a rustic natural base to add texture and interest and a glass top so that the space looks open.

There's also the Crate and Barrel "Embossed Numbers" clock. It's simple, easy to read, and well... not $295. Yikes!

I think wall-mounted lamps could end up making the space look a bit cramped.

A ceiling pendant lamp would be a great way to provide both accent and ambient light. I've received great complements on the eden pendant lamp I got from CB2. It's not hardwired, so the cord will be visible, but it's clear and not too noticeable.

A neat feature in today's NYT on redecorating with accent pieces. Includes pretty convincing looking Saarinen and Bertoia clones from Target.

Cheryl -

I'm pretty sure she meant the editorial we too. From another part of the same article,

"The guidelines are devised, she said, from myriad internal experiments to gauge users’ preferences. Avoid first- and second-person pronouns. Always write 'Google' instead of 'we.'"

@amt230

Marissa Mayer, Google's style maven (aka VP of Search Product and User Experience), agrees.

From a recent <A href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/01/business/01marissa.html">profile in the NYT: "If we use the word ‘we,’ then users think we are picking their words for them."
