I got mine from The Bombay Company, it's dark wood, lined with green felt and has gold handles. I did get it in Canada, not sure if that store exists in the US.

We grew up with a toaster but I hated the way it tasted. My grandma used to butter both sides of the bread then cook it in our cast iron skillet. So much better than gross dry toaster toast!

Also I'm sure they'd appreciate any help stocking their liquor cabinet. A nice bottle of scotch or vodka with rocks glasses or wine would probably be welcomed.

Sounds like a fun task!

Hooray for the Branston pickle party!! It is something I grew up eating all the time thanks to my British mom. My favourite way to prepare its open faced grilled cheddar sandwiches with Branston smeared over top and the left under the broiler until bubbly and crisp. And while, we're on the topic, can we talk about how awesome British food is in general- beans and toast, meat pies- just divine!

Nothing beats those OXO tongs! I have the more expensive Rosle version too but will reach for the OXO over them each and every time.

So thrilled to see the stuffed mushrooms link! The second I saw Ina making them on The Barefoot Contessa I knew they had to be on our Thanksgiving table. Thrilled to see a great review beforehand :)

Really? I saw that on the CB website yesterday and really don't like it. It looks like it belongs in a shop window displaying ornaments for purchase. Just feels too cold and contrived for me.

I am an overnight guest expert! Living in NY we average a couple of house guests a month. Totally agree about the fresh towels and sheets. Tissues in the bathroom and on the bedside table, a small alarm clock, local guidebooks, maps and magazines are helpful. I also have a habit of always making sure I have fresh flowers in the house when I have houseguests, it just livens up the space a little bit more.

Yum, thanks so much for sharing this! Just made it the other night, it was so simple and so rewarding. The entire house smelled decadent after only 20 minutes work. Brought half of it to work- huge hit.

A rug, if only to protect those floors from the high traffic chair scraping dining area.

Bouchon, Doughnut Plant for bakeries. I cringe a little at your fave pizza places...the best pizza in NY has to be Village Pizza or Mariella.

I'm with you GreatFriend! I am definitely drawn to anything Ina and, in that same sort of vein, the kitchen from the movie Something's Gotta Give. I also think islands are fantastic, I mean what better way to bring people together in a room that is the heart of the home.
