Love the poster. Why people are so quick to say they don't like sthg? Keep your dislikes to yourself, they're pointless in these kind of posts... and bad karma, dudes :)

And as if one would only shoot (or print) headless photos of an event... he he... If you read the negative comments here it almost sounds as if this post was about headless photos as a replacement for regular portraits :)

Kinko's is expensive, plenty of online cheap alternatives, prints on canvas-like paper as well. Just google poster printing and you'll find lots of options. And also check cut-outs, real nice.

Ikea frames are cheap, great mounting solutions. But also note that because there are cheap printing options out there, you don't have to find a long-lasting mounting solution. If it deteriorates after a couple of years, just print more headless photos ;)

I like your red idea. See if you can find a friend who use Photoshop and try different shades of everything. May I also suggest that you print them and leave them hanging on a wall for a while -- you'll be surprised how your opinion may change.

I saw these great samples of colorful façades:

Loved the 3rd one, a brickish color -- daring but not overwhelming :)

Good luck, you got a beautiful home :)

I've lived in SF for 15 years. Assuming you're on a low budget, try to get a place in the outer sunset, cheap and close to the N Muni line that can connect you to downtown easily. Once here you can decide which neighborhood to move to and look for good rental deals off season. Good luck in your move :)

It seems the name "hostess gift" bothers people. Ever since I can remember we always brought something whenever we'd go visit someone, or have dinner, party, vacation... It's not about rules, regulations, etiquette or martha-stewardism. It's just people being thankful and appreciative of someone's work and hospitality. If you think your dish does the job, then by all means don't bring anything else. This is something I do for me, like when I say "thank you" -- it's just part of my upbringing and it was never a "burden" or obligation.

In my experience, if something is too good to be true, it always is. If the landlord is letting you know about the smoking tenants, it's probably because there have been problems before... which may explain the affordable price for a huge, well located place. Don't want to rain on your parade, kid, but if you're as sensitive to smoke as I am, I wouldn't take it. I'm an ex smoker and I don't give a hard time to any smoker, but I keep a long distance from smoke -- temptation and asfixiation ;) Good luck in your search

white tile begs white grout. darker colors makes grout look dirty.
in the event you get bored, you can always stain the grout in a grey or cream color. but the other way around won't work.

#4 seems not to be a straight forward slide in & out kinda thing. I bet it requires some steering -- like my portable dishwasher -- especially with the angle at the top.

I guess I'd rather save the space under the stairs for Harry Potter... ;)

I love the piece you already have there. You could place it on top of a thick (1") reclaimed wood and add 4 big casters (vintage industrial or colored)? Use those big idea colored storage boxes to hide visual clutter.

Not my kinda thing/palette/layout... I find the sofa too big for that wall... rather have a smaller sofa w/ side table... A sectional would have been a good solution...
Not a good solution for that empty wall by the side of the sofa also, seems empty
Pictures layout and sizes don't work there either...

For 2 colors you could have a simple face of a column, from the end of the arch to the floor. Just a flat panel, 1/2 inch thick, kinda like wainscoating, same width as the arch. This way you have an element separating both rooms, no line dividing the colors.

Something kinda like in this link, but simple, very plain, like the arch itself. What you're really looking for is just a little relief/thickness to divide both rooms:
http://elitetrimworks.com/home.php?cat=102

But I'd stick to one color and paint the arch lighter than the wall color.
