My dad has always liked peanut butter and Lebanon bologna sandwiches... I tried one once. [wrinkles nose] I didn't like it.

You should try The Dump.

I know the name sounds terrible. I know. But it's a great big store that offers nice furniture at discounted prices.

The store nearest to Philly is in Langhorne, which is in the suburbs to the north of the city.

Raymour & Flanigan is a popular furniture store in the suburbs. And there's an IKEA in Conshohocken (you could get a whole bunch of good dining room chairs for a couple hundred bucks), which is in the suburbs to the west of the city.

I had a "skinny mirror" in my college dorm.

It was there when I moved in. And I'm naturally thin, so I didn't think much more than "I need to gain a few pounds" when I looked at my reflection in it.

But then one of my friends came in and started checking herself out in it. She told everyone else it was a "skinny mirror." And my room was the most popular place to go before a date or dance.

The Husband and I had problems for a while with letting food spoil in the fridge or on the counter.

I've found a couple key habits that help:

1. Keeping the fridge organized. If you keep all the produce on the same shelf, you'll know where it is, what you have and what you need to use. You won't find moldy fruit or wilty vegetables smushed in a back corner somewhere.

2. Keeping recipes in a searchable format. I have a Google e-mail account to which I e-mail all of our favorite recipes. If I have an herb or vegetable I need to use up, I type that particular item into the search and all the recipes that contain it come up.

3. Menu planning. Oh... menu planning is so crucial. I've found that we can make a variety of meals and use food before it spoils if we carefully plan around the ingredients.

When I was younger, my favorite color was pink. My bedroom was cotton candy pink. And I wore glasses with pink frames so I could be sure to wear pink every day.

I still love pink, though I prefer hot pinks and fuschias to pastels.

But I prefer - for decor - a deep, rich wine red. It's sensual and sexy, but cozy at the same time.

I'm serving a (sort-of potluck) brunch for 10 this weekend.

I'm making two strata - one with ham, swiss and tomato and one with sausage, swiss and spinach.

The recipe for the first one comes from Martha Stewart: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/ham-swiss-and-tomato-strata

The recipe for the second one comes from Eggs on Sunday: http://eggsonsunday.wordpress.com/2008/12/21/breakfast-strata-with-greens-gruyere-and-sausage/

Oh my gosh... I LOVE lengua.

The Husband and I tried lengua for the first time at an awesome little taqueria in Albuquerque. It was very flavorful and melted in my mouth.

Don't you mean what's NOT cooking?

It's been so hot lately that I've been doing my best to avoid actually using heat in the kitchen.

I'm making insalata panzanella. The Husband and I adapted our recipe from the one on the Kayotic Kitchen blog; we use yellow peppers instead of red (because I hate red, and because the yellow add some nice color), cucumbers instead of avocadoes (because we both hate avocadoes), and we add a little minced garlic. Easy. Quick. No cooking. Delicious.

I'll probably also reheat some black bean chili I made last week, and eat it with tortilla chips.

Remember that Ree lives in Oklahoma - a state once called "The Dust Bowl." It's nice and dry there.

I have a hard time believing that these drawers would work well in the South or Mid-East, where it gets humid and sticky in the summer. Only airtight containers will work in these parts.

Insalata Panzanella.

(Tomatoes, red peppers, basil, cucumbers, a dressing made of olive oil and lemon juice, chunks of ciabatta. YUM.)

Kayotic Kitchen has a great recipe.

We don't have a microwave, stand mixer or toaster.

But we do have a toaster oven.

Do you know how much energy it takes to turn on the oven and pre-heat it?!?! A toaster or toaster oven is MUCH more efficient.
