If I don't make it, I buy it at the Union Square Farmer's market and if I don't get it at the market I buy D'artangan duck and veal demi glace at Fairway.

My husband and I bought our queen mattress and a twin for our son made by OMI. They don't sell directly. We purchased them from a store in Seattle. It has been a great experience. We are very pleased with both mattresses. We ordered pillows and mattress protectors from Shepherd's Dream in California. Who we almost purchased mattresses from before we decided on OMI. Saving for some comforters and maybe a dog bed from them too.

Funny you posted this. We are moving back to Park Slope from Washington state and one of the mistakes we made the first time was not having an outdoor space. We are planning on sharing a room with our 3 year old and chocolate lab to afford a sunny garden. Anyone know of anything available?

a good book on nutrition: Nourishing Traditions
based on this guy's studies: http:/www.westonaprice.org/

Part of the book talks about how to prepare grains. I don't think eating them raw is good for you.

My husband traveling also puts me in survival mode.

We are usually really spontaneous. But when my husband is traveling I try to schedule (the week before he leaves) a visit of some kind for every day he is away. I might volunteer to watch some other kids. We may visit great grandparents or other relatives that we don't see often. I always have a night or two that I cook my parents dinner so they can read and play. For me, it's making sure there are extra sources of love and attention around because mine can run thin in survival mode.

Looks very good. Thanks for the salmon breakdown. Why would you use canola oil though? Maybe substitute the canola for some good (grass fed) butter?

I agree with you, white seems very practical and beautiful. That is my style of cleaning as well, just by what looks dirty in that moment gets cleaned instead of a day dedicated to cleaning the whole house.

I was thinking the same thing about the handle. But on their website it looks like your water bottle fits under a separate little strap, leaving a gap for your fingers to fit under the handle.

It sounds like you have quite a few different suggestions already. I see a theme with people suggesting floating shelves.

Do you need the shelves? If not, a big mirror with a black frame (to go with your black stools) on the wall above the stove. An antique one, hung so it is tilting a bit from the top toward the floor.

I also like the idea of switching out the light. Possibly for some sort of chandelier or a pendant with an extra large drum shade. I love black with the color of your cabinets but a color pulled from your mosaic tiles might look great for the drum shade. More of an eclectic look than a retro theme.

I love the tile and the cabinets. Another row of solid color tile above the mosaic would be nice.

I'd also try to store that big phone book somewhere and mount a bright colored (or black?) retro looking phone on the wall above where it sits now.

Change out the white bins on the left for stainless steel. And a large black and white graphic or print where the small calendar hangs above the new stainless steel bins.

Some topiaries of your favorite herbs in the window.

Display something that reveals the child that resides in the kitchen by displaying some of his/her colorful artwork or even the flatware and dishes that are his.

I love your kitchen already. I can't wait to see what you decide to do and the results!

I like the white. I also agree with above posters, paint the eves under the roof, the door and the cinder block foundation a dark color to tie it together. Accessories are always good too. A light fixture or two, door knocker and window boxes. All dark like the windows. But definitely like the white house.
