this is great! my first pickling attempt was dismal, but after reading The Martha's overview, I'm inspired to try again.

My boyfriend asked me to move in with him, and next month we're making it happen. I wonder from time to time if he's fully aware of what he's getting himself into -- me being a certified closet germophone and neat freak and all that. Although I envision overall domestic bliss, I secretly fear the untidy chaos that comes from setting up shop with someone who might be a wee bit on the careless side. Don't get me wrong -- my boyfriend keeps a good house, but our views on chores and household upkeep seem at odds from time to time. I ask you: Is it so wrong to want everything to be hung up properly and put away? Smudge free surfaces? Sparkling dishes? Magazines on the coffee table in a neat array? My boyfriend sometimes seems to think so. As I try to relax into a slightly less anal-retentive routine next month, I hope that we'll both be happy with the changes in our lives -- and that I can prove to my love that there's a "method" to my madness after all.

- organize the bookshelves
- free up some of the horizontal space -- just a few less objet here and there would help
- ditto the walls; I think where you've used color or pattern on the walls is sometimes interesting enough without slapping something framed on top of it or next to it. Maybe you could store some of your awesome collection and show some, and rotate as the mood strikes you?
