Le Corboozier -- are you commenting on the apartment, or something else altogether?

WMJR, what are you babbling about? What's wrong with the floor? By the way, Ruby is a girl.

Citygirlsf, have you tried drowning them? Leave an open bottle of apple cider vinegar sitting out for a few days; first pour out enough so that there's an inch or two of room at the top. The little buggers love the scent, will fly in and be unable to fly out. It takes a couple days for them all to find it; in the meantime, some of them will be sitting on the neck of the bottle, aparently getting high, but eventually they all succumb. I've used this method several times. When all the fruit flies are floating in the bottle, instead of hovering around it, I pour the vinegar down the garbage disposal while it's running. (This also works with red wine and fruit juice, as I found out the hard way by leaving open bottles sitting on the counter.)

Tetegrondona, if you look closely at the picture of the bathroom, you will see a hinged glass shower door folded against the wall on the left side. It just swings away from the tub when not needed. Or is the glass door what you were objecting to? Personally, I would love to have one in my bathroom; less obtrusive than a tub enclosure and sleeker than a shower curtain.

Those of us who read Daniel's blog know how much hard work, creativity, improvisation and sheer love he has put into his "Manhattan nest" (relocated to Brooklyn). We have seen him perform almost impossible transformations of rooms, doors, windows, furniture, lamps, accessories, you-name-it. We feel we know his apartment, and him! We voted for him because we feel he deserves it for his many talents, and the inspiration he provides. The photographs show the end result; Daniel's readers have seen the process.

He is also not the only contestant with a blog!

D2 Pad, have you looked at Daniel's blog at www.manhattan-nest.com? He did a lot of work on the kitchen! That photo above makes the counter look like a built-in, but that's his sweat equity; that kitchen came with little storage and an awkward layout.

I doubt it's a book stack, it looks like a vertical bookcase. There are several different ones; the Sapien, Cadman and Spine. If you look closely, you can see the flat base at the bottom. I will say that is the tallest one I've seen.
