I will concede that "MCM" didn't start being used until recently, but that's just short for mid century modern which is a term I remember hearing as early as like, the mid 90s, when I asked my parents if I could redo my room that way. It's not a fad term, it's not a hipster thing, it's a description of what you are talking about. Mid century as in the middle of the 1900s and modern as in it was fresh and brand new at that time. Ten years ago no one cared about MCM? Uh. It literally has not gone out of style since it's inception decades ago. You may not have been paying attention, or were too young to care, or didn't have good design resources to get your information from, but it was actually more popular 10 years ago than it is now. Even La-Z-Boy was in on that action, they put out an entire line of faux MCM furniture and accessories. If that's not an endorsement then I don't know what is. I'm all for charity, but I bought two beach towels from OKL earlier this year (the navy with the huge anchor and the orange with the fish design) and they are CHEEEEEAAAAAAP feeling. Such bad quality for the price. The color of the orange fish towel looked much more tasteful and muted on the website, also. In person it is bright screaming construction cone orange. No thanks. While I can appreciate the time and effort it took to do this, I cannot ever condone turning a beautiful period piece of wood furniture into something that looks like you bought it at Pier 1 on clearance. Ugh, sorry. :( Before & After: An Art Deco Makeover Akicsihaz |

I really do love the look of these simple, tasteful rooms done up in neutrals...but we have decades and decades of research showing that a baby's mind develops much better when they have complicated patterns and colors to look at. Especially while in their crib alone. So I am puzzled about this new "nothing for baby to look at" trend in nurseries. >_> Finn's Subtle Safari Room Professional Project |

Ok, I am pretty limited in my understanding of certain computer things, but does anyone know how to make a mix cd of 30 second /10 second song clips? That would really make this easy to do since you'd just go by the music as for when to switch up. Exercise at Home: A Compact 7 Minute Workout New York Times |

Just thought of something - you could paint the inside of that closet office nook a favorite color. It would unify the little office as well as make it look like a deliberate choice in the room. Less "closet with a desk stuck in it" and more "this is a feature I put here on purpose". Congrats on your place and I hope you find some good tips here! Advice for Tying Together Decor? Whoa that place is STUNNING. You super hardcore lucked out! I want to echo the suggestion of a previous comment about asking the landlord to uncover the wood floors, since that place looks like it has them under that carpet. Brown carpet always looks smelly to me, like maybe it harbors cigarette and cat smells, ya know? Those curved walls that flow into the ceiling? Extremely expensive. Like, crazy expensive. Work with it, not against it. Previous advice to create a ceiling line with molding is bad judgement with poor taste. Advice for Tying Together Decor? Good Questions |
