i was just in castro valley, helping out at the family-run Chouinard Winery. I don't know much about wine but their zinfandel is crazy delicious. i wish i could describe properly but basically it was jammy and succulent and totally satisfying. It's on the higher end of your suggestions at 18.50/bottle. The grapes are a 110-year old vineyard from Mohr-Fry Ranches in Lodi. I don't know if it's "spectacular" the birthday boy seemed to love it and it was the first creative cake I ever made so i love it too: http://flickr.com/photos/40040713381@N01/166286283/.The best cake I have ever received was last year's ice cream cake.
