I live in southern CA and I don't have earthquake insurance. No one I know has it. Most people here don't because it's incredibly expensive (only about 12% of Californians do). It probably ought to make me nervous, but my family has lived here for nearly 70 years and never had earthquake damage to one of our houses. I currently live in a newish house built to current earthquake standards which makes me feel like that money is better off in my 401K than down the insurance drain. Now if I lived in a historic house built out of unreinforced brick sitting on a fault line, then that would be a different story. Try Calibricoa too. It comes in a ton of colors, is super easy to grow, and trails with hundreds of flowers. I've got deep red ones spilling out of a black windowbox and get lots of compliments from the neighbors. 10 Colorful Low Mantainence Plants for Your Window Box | Apartment Therapy Boston |

With two who like to launch their tennis balls at the wall and scratch their backs on the corners, flat paint is out for us. I've come to love the cleanable qualities of a low sheen/eggshell paint. While the walls above are beautiful, I find I'm drawn to the color rather than focusing on the sheen level. I'd think they were pretty with any sheen level. I'll second being a Maidenhair killer. Inevitably, I either don't water enough or water too much and kill it. They are on my list of the most finicky plants around. I'd do a heavy pergola extending over both garage doors to fill some of the visual space between the doors and the upper windows and add some dimension to the flat surface. It comes down to someone else profiting from your original idea for me. If a homeowner copies an idea for their own home, that seems okay. We all copy ideas from magazines, books, blogs, etc. But when someone faithfully recreates your work and makes money from your ideas, that's stealing. Oh dear. Well, hopefully as locals, your guests will be somewhat acclimated to the Texas summer heat, but if it were me, I would ignore the fan noise (put on music to drown it out) and get some of those fans that hook to a water source so they blow out mist. It still comes down to men being able to use it in both forms and women having to do something to get the toilet into a usable state (the button and turning in this case). It jsut changes the argument from, "why can't you put the seat down?" to "why can't you turn the toilet back around?" Apartment Therapy Unplugged | The Incredible 2-in-1 Loo!
