Glad I could help! :) And *do* make the little head pillow - it's such a small thing, but I find the chair isn't nearly as comfortable with out it. Best of luck!

Tracy here - Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I'm really glad to hear people like it as is; the only thing I've been worried about is that there are a lot more tears than are obvious in the photo. Probably about 50% of the creases you see actually go all the way through, plus there's a button that's broken, a place where the top seam has come unsewn -- just making sure it doesn't come apart is my main concern. I didn't realize that there was any chance at all that it could be repaired or restored, though, so I'll look into that. And yes, putting various throws over it has been my main strategy so far. :) Thanks again!

Thanks for the great suggestions, everyone! See Jane Work is quite cool, and I totally should have thought of Etsy. Plus World Market? Who'da thunk?

Oo! Do they have macarons? If so, I'm there.

I'm completely not sure I'd want to, but is there a way to buy those? That site's in German (and in Flash, so you can't Babelfish it) so it's unclear to me whether you can.

I believe the site says they're sold out of all three? :-/

As a single woman, no. But if I had some company in my house, then...yeah, maybe. :) I have certainly met up with online folk before and have been put up and shown--and have put up and have shown others--around cities with very little information about each other beforehand. It can be a really awesome experience. :) But yeah, you do sort of have to use a little common sense about how much closeness to allow.

That pool is beautiful but, in person, something about the enclosure and the echoes and the darkness of the place does make it noticeably creepy. I can see why the guests wouldn't want to use it (and now I feel better because clearly, I wasn't the only one who ever got creeped out. ;) )

Do you figure it's strong enough to withstand a cat claw here and there?

I'd love to stay overnight at one of their little fake rooms. My only question would be...are they set up in case I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night? And will all the other people staying over be close enough to hear me snore and see what I look like in the morning?

I have a 50's pole lamp and a 30's metal dinette that I'm cleaning up and repainting. There are a few small pieces of each that need re-plating: part of the lamp needs its brass plating redone, and the (removable) trim of the dinette is rusted and pitted past the point that I can fix it (and is the only part of the set that is in such shape). It needs to be polished or chromed or otherwise made to shine again.

But my question is: does anyone have a place they'd recommend for these replating/polishing services? I'm in Burbank, and my concerns are that 1) my items are so small and few, I'm not sure if it'd be worth it for a place to do just them (and I'm a little intimidated even to inquire), and 2) no place seems to be open on weekends, and the places I've looked at are too far away for me to run over to them on my lunch break or something. So if anyone has a place they'd really recommend or some experience to share, I'd appreciate it. :)

A $2,800 rug? My mom may deserve it, but I don't think she's gonna get it...

As others have said, the way to choose is by YOUR priorities, not someone else's. If the beach rocks your world, you might want to keep it. If amenities make you happier, go there.

One thing I usually do when I'm in your sitch is to make a list of the pros and cons of each choice. Then I count how many of each there are for each option. This gives you a real visual of how things are shaking down. Then sometimes I still go ahead and choose the one that's not "statistically" smart, but at least I figured out I wanted to through this process.

The other suggestion: somewhere in your head, you DO know which you want--you're probably just judging it and saying it doesn't "make sense" or something similar. Do the thing where you just tell yourself you DO know and say out loud what you want, immediately without thinking. That's probably your choice.

One more possibility, that you probably don't want to hear about :P : wait for other choices. I know, I know, if you don't act NOW you'll lose this opportunity!!! But that's just THIS opportunity--there are a million other places. And just because it might be difficult or unlikely you'll find something else in your current location doesn't mean it's impossible. The pressure that's on right now is making things look a certain way, but remove that pressure and things might look different.

Just my $.02, ignore or use however you'd like. And best of luck!

Not badly designed, per se, but too dark and extreme for my tastes. If it suits his tastes, rock on.

Scott897: You have not seen the movie "Swingers," then? Full of colorful slang. :) An example:

Trent: Baby, that was money! Tell me that wasn't money.
Mike: That was so demeaning.
Trent: She smiled, baby.
Mike: I can't believe what an a**hole you are.
Trent: Did she, or did she not smile?
Mike: She was smiling at what an a**hole you are.
Trent: She was smiling at how money I am, baby.

Hot or Not?

I've had good experiences on Freecycle, and recommend it to everyone. Once I found myself unexpectedly rescuing a large dog who needed to be crated when I left the house. I requested a large dog crate one morning and had what had to be a $100 dog crate by the evening, absolutely free. When I was done with it, I donated it to someone else who did dog rescue. When I needed a backpacking frame to build a big silly TiVo Guy costume around for Halloween, I got one. Buying such a frame--even second hand--would likely have been more expensive than I wanted, and searching for a thrift store that just happened to have one would have taken forever!

The only slight downside is that some people do say they want things you offer, and then flake on following up. But then I just move on to the next person. It feels good to help other people out, and to be helped out yourself. I say try it!
