Wow! A world apart from how my college dorm looked. Amazing. I especially like those round Ikea hanging flower vases. Well done, ladies!

Try spraying vodka on hard surfaces like walls - also should help with any mold. Vodka is also a secret weapon against clothes with b.o. (in a pinch) or underarm stains. The alcohol smell evaporates, and you're just left with a clean smell.

That is such a well done job (both the garden and the candid writing about the process)! The photos of the vegetables made my mouth water. Amazing what a transformation!

It was not that pretty before, but stunning after! Very well done. Even better to know the so-human story behind it!

I tried out a bunch of things to try to keep my tiny medicine cabinet organized and tidy. The single best thing was also the cheapest - for 3 bucks at Amazon I got an adhesive hanger ("Hang Away Universal Toothbrush Holder"). You cut them apart, adhere them inside the medicine cabinet (so no toilet spray gets to it when you flush, ick), and voila, super easy and out of sight. Opens up a lot of space!

That said, I really can't see where the actual article's 20 tips are! I just see a bunch of ads and links to other articles. Hmmm.

20 Tips & Solutions To Keeping A Cleaner Bathroom

quotable quotes from today's comments: "Oooh...Luke! When you do get here, you should just post a picture of a potted plant in the closet and say "bathroom."" and
"Luke's aura of mystery and indifference to all this speculation makes me want to fall in love with him and stalk him." Bwahaha!

I love this room for the pared-down simplicity. There might be a few simple ways to perfect this, if allowed by your landlord:
-Needs some color even if only on the window wall - a warm buttery yellow to refract and warm the sun?. If you can't paint, can you hang fabric?
-I would LOVE some hanging vines around the window. If you had that kind of plantage, I could deal with all the white better.
-Hanging the mirror on the wall, not leaning on the table, so the space is not all about "dark area of clutter"
-Hanging something above the upended bed to catch the eye and complete the space. I'm still a fan of that color.

That said, and on a totally different tangent - I'm wondering if there is a way for someone to make this space work in a totally different way.
-Loft? (would require some fancy building skills prolly)
-Just the Murphy bed without a couch
-Hammock that folds away entirely when not in use?
-Hanging bed? (just to be wild and crazy)

Luke - love your place!!

You're so cute! You obviously love that great shade of kelly green, and just go after it with both total abandon and careful control. Well done, it's a fun approach!

I like how low-key your bed is, right next to a bright-print curtain. It does a nice job with an age-old small space efficiency, of distracting from having the bed in the living room. Well done!

I think this is a really cool project. I got a little lost on a few of the steps (like, if you flip it over so the wide bottom of the tapered shade becomes the top of the new drum shade, what goes at the bottom? Does it just kind of hang there?) -- but if you want to see something totally crazy cool, look at her blog (robinm posted the link above) to see how she converted that same lamp into a silver clear-bubble lamp that looks pretty awesome. The crazy part, it's done using spray paint, silver duct tape, and cut-up 2-liter soda bottles. And yet does not look it at all!

This woman is mad talented!

To # 2 and #6 I say "oooh!" - in totally different styles but still pretty rocking.

#7 - is mid-DIY-project now a design element? I'm so confused.

p.s. I just looked up Cowboy Bebop, and just added it to my Netflix Instant Download queue. Thanks for the pointer! (for other people who didn't know, like me, it's a Japanese anime series set in the future, about bounty hunters. Sounds like it's maybe got some of the same Future/Old West themes of Firefly? We'll see. Either way, it's got a kickin' retro soundtrack)

Doh! Of course my very favorite thing (the sweet yellow open shelving) is a 1-time vintage find! Well good job on the score, and keep on moving it, it's well worth it! That shelving just makes the entire apartment work together, and is making me drool.

I also love the crown basket that you put once-worn clothes in. It really does do credit to the grown-up fairy tale look.

Ha, I LOLed when I saw the skirt and face on the column. That I haven't seen before, and it cracked me up. You seem like someone I would love to hang out with!

Other great touches: the orange tchotchky holder (looked brown in the first pic so I didn't so much like it, but the orange of the closeup made me happy), the bright yellow table, the vintage cabinet (any way to pull the violin out and give it the attention it deserves? Maybe even mounting it on the side of the cabinet in front of the pillar?), the yellow crane toy with a fish dangling, the polar bear on top of the fridge (why? who cares!!), all the bright pops of yellow and orange.

Only 2 things that don't hit my eye with delight are: 1) the patchwork Malm dresser (sorry, it looked like ton of work!) To me, the colors don't work with the oranges and yellows elsewhere, they're too muted/pastel; and I'm not loving the patchwork. How bout a "mod shelf liner" from Etsy for a fresh look that coordinates with the rest of your funky stylishness? 2) The fridge is so cool, the magnets detract from its style - I'd say declutter the ones you don't *love*, and move all the magnets to the opposite side (kitchen side) so it has a clean neutral look on that side.

You done good, girl! I am in awe of how much style you got into such a small space, and how open and airy you were able to keep it feeling! Very nice design and execution!

Urk. Maybe, just maybe, it would work if all painted one color. As it is, not so much liking it. I'm all for frugality, but this steps over the line to cheap b**d. [Not a prude, just not sure if AT removes posts for profanity]

This is totally my current dream, to live a truly minimalist lifestyle that is still aesthetically pleasing and convenient. My two concerns about actually doing such a thing are 1) we have fall and winter where I live, and 2) I have 2 dogs, can you even leave dogs all day in a trailer? I mean, I leave them all day in a condo, and they're not really barkers, so maybe it's the same ('cept my condo is insulated and warm). Anyone have experience with living in a trailer with dogs, and working outside the 'house'?

The green tiles around the fireplace could easily have not been pleasing, but you did a great job of making it feel fresh and just plain awesome through the arrangements of bright green plants and wood/wicker. Well done!

For the backsplash you don't like, did you see the recent post on AT for removable cardboard backsplash? Looked pretty nice.

The only one of these chairs I do not totally loathe is the last one. It's just quirky and fun enough for me to kind of like it. But I suspect that if I had to look at it for any longer than 15 seconds, especially in the flesh, and I would quickly come to loathe it as much as the other ones. If it weren't patchwork though I might adore the chairs. Funny how symmetry makes the difference between love and loathe.

<Long wistful sigh>

I so want to live there. What a wonderful serene space, in such a lovely location. Very well done sir, well done indeed.

I love all the wood and the neutral colors, they open up the space a lot. I do wish for one or two pops of color in the main space, other than the blue tile in the bathroom and backsplash (Bright covers for the cushions in the main work station? A bright colored tea kettle?), but then again with that view who needs color inside?

The organization fiend in my heart also loves the pull-out pantry, and all the little cubbies and drawers under the kitchen counter.

The only other thought is that maybe instead of a carpet square under the door, you could use some of those 'snapping deck' wooden floor tiles for the most immediate path to the Airstream - or maybe even the whole space under the blue canopy - to prevent mud, and to have a visually pleasing space, while not destroying the grass.

I put a bunch of 2-pronged hooks on either side of my Ikea wardrobe. *I* use the hooks, but as he changes clothes, the hubster uses whatever convenient place in the room (and by convenient I occasionally really mean bizarre - how is the single most convenient place in the room all the way on top of the stack of pillows on top of the tall wardrobe?!) to drop his clothes. I choose to see the humor in this one :)

Re taking off all the ornaments from the shelves every time you pull down the wall bed - I've seen designs that have shelves that basically pivot and hang at the lowest point. So as you swing down the bed, they would stay horizontal the whole way down, and none of the books/knick knacks/etc would even be dislodged. I think the first one (the orange one) is one of those.
