when we grill i core apples and fill them with a mixture of cream cheese, maple syrup and nuts then wrap them in foil and leave them on forever to bake. you end up with a deliciously smoky creamy baked apple aching for a scoop of ice cream

just last night i bought some ant baits that were filled with liquid and placed them in known ant areas; the ants were gone this morning.

i also caulked around the window frames because that seemed to be an entry point for some. a borax barrier has worked well for me in the past

i know its NE'ers favorite pastime to judge those of us who are not used to excess snow, and we are all very impressed with your efficient use of snowdays. But you have to understand that because we are not used to getting 72" of snow in one winter (most of it in the last 5 days) our city/ state budgets do not allocate the amounts for snow removal that you do. it would be a waste in a typical winter. They are doing the best to keep everyone here safe. In a city where so many are below the poverty level (hence tax money is tight) it is difficult to keep the ship afloat for day-to-day spending much less prepare for the snowiest winter in record.

I live in Baltimore, not DC, but we all shovel around here in fact monday we actually had to shovel the street to the main road...we the neighborhood.

this is just the old christmas letter debate rehashed... how dare you love and cherish your family if it doesn't fit the design aesthetic i have selected for you. i think its pretty self centered to think people should select what they hang on their own walls based on how guests may feel about the handbag little bitsy was carrying in the photo

we make a folder for each month of the year then upload at least once a month. for pics of seemingly unexciting events with multiple pictures, i use picasa (which i think they have for mac now too) make a collage then delete all of the pics. i also try and upload the real good stuff to a photo site and once a year make a book.

we really needed our stroller and our sling but we opted for a chicco reclining umbrella stroller those huge travel systems are ridiculous.
skip the wipe warmer, and sterilizer. for our second child we opted for the highchair seat that attaches to the table, its for 6 mos and up so that makes perfect sense.

i have 2 kids and i think i used the pack and play once for a playpen but i did use it w/ bassinet thing for the first few weeks with my son it was actually helpful in that respect.
skip the changing table buy a crib sized waterproof mat, we change our kids on our bed or on the floor.
skip the "take and toss", stuff ....seriously take it home and wash it people come on
basically you need some one piece sleepers, a way to transport the baby (stroller sling) a safe carseat and some diapering equipment

we use gdiapers with my daughter they are really the best of both worlds, at home we use cloth inserts and on the go we use cloth or the g-flushable witch is flushable or compostable. i used cloth with my son and it was a little too much for my husband, this system he actually likes; and its simple enough for a babysitter.

our son is 4 and we recently go him that low loft bed ( kura) from ikea. Under the bed is his train table, a hot wheels garage and a floor cushion made from a burlap coffee bag. for the rest of the room i use those wire cubes to house his books and other toys, that way i can reconfigure them as his toy taste changes without investing in new furniture. i think the things to consider is making the room easily adaptable to changing interests with minimal effort. so chalkboard walls and removable decals are smart and modular storage is a must have
