Ever since Alton B said never to use the edge of a bowl, because it pushed the shell INTO the egg, and increases the odds of both having to fish out shell AND putting germs into the egg, I've been a countertop gal.

When I used to cook professionally, and cracked dozens of eggs a day making quiches, I did the one-handed side of the bowl crack. :)

Sadly, we have VERY VERY hard water where I live. I have tried every 'green' detergent and only the bad stuff really works -- in fact only the baddest works! I use Cascade Complete. Everything else results in less and less clean dishes until, before I have gone through a package of detergent, glasses look like I dipped them in milk then left them to dry that way. I think the inner workings of the machine become so built up that pressure is also affected.

I do a lot of other 'green' things and have to accept that one can only be so perfect.

Finally, I also run the kitchen sink water until it's warming up so I know the d/w will get truly hot water in that first and second cycle. I catch the water in a pitcher and use it to water plants.

Jello in the fridge. My daughter, who was 3 at the time really wanted some, and it was not set up and had been placed on the TOP shelf to allow for maximum coverage. You have not *lived* until you clean each and every item in your fridge individually, and even disassemble shelves to get at the crannies.

I did think to take a photo for posterity.

Didn't capture the trail of tears that ensued from her walking with red feet over beige carpet to find me and show me her little mistake.

The Cure is a great concept. I read along with the Spring Cure and will follow this with great interest, and probably participate a bit here and there. I host a forum on Delphi, for people who follow the Fly Lady system, and have put a link to this blog post for members to read and possibly find inspiration.

I lived on the West Side and it sounds like BS for most people. I mean, is it generally 32 or colder in your kitchen? No? If you were saying you wanted it on your patio, sure... but I think she's trying to upsell you. I'd have it sealed, though, since it may get stained with spills or grease...

That 'but I might needs it' syndrome is insidious. I host a FlyLadies support network forum, and we are participating in a 365 Days of Decluttering challenge. Everyone who chooses to participate is only answerable to themselves, but many of us are sharing our successes and helping motivate each other along the way. Keeping a home tidy and uncluttered seems like it should be so easy, but we all have company in the challenge it really can be. If you're interested, please join us at
