@Yonella; I have five chickens, and I must say you are right about keeping birds being more expensive than buying your eggs at the market. Best Cities for Urban Homesteaders on a Budget? Good Questions |

I'm actually OK with arranging books by color; I did it with my cookbooks. I remember what all the books look like, so it has made them easier for me to find, not harder. Been There, Done That: Designers Weigh In On "Worst Trends" Elle Decor |

The corner of my living room is the only place where I can store my TV. I still have my big old TV, in a cabinet style corner armoire that I bought on Craigslist and painted yellow. I prefer to hide the TV when it's not on. But I haven't found a good solution to hiding the TV in the corner of a room, outside of the armoire. Does anyone know of any? Oh honestly, in the Midwest, the bungalow is the tract home of the early 20th century; it's not so precious. So if Alison doesn't want to fill it with Stickley furniture that's her prerogative. One of the nice things about MCM furniture is that it is small-scaled and usually affordable, so it works well in smaller rooms. When people do not mix styles, it tends to look like a renovator's showroom instead of a home. Alison's "Vintage-Modern Blue & Grey" Room |

For bright white, I like Pratt and Lambert's designer white. I want to try marine paint on the trim in my bathroom. I like the high gloss and durability of it, reminds me of Mackinaw Island. Otherwise, I love love love, Benjamin Moore's satin impervo. It's a fabulous paint for the hardworking areas of the house; cupboards, windowsills, etc.; and it's self leveling if applied with a brush. Color Prescription: What Color Would You Choose? Too true JenneJoy! No mention of the completely fabulous Grand Rapids Art Museum, or University of Michigan Museum of Art, which are worth a visit for the buildings alone. I don't much about homes outside of Southeast Michigan to tour, but I'm surprised NOT to see Meadow Brook Hall, the Henry Ford Estate, or the Edsel and Elanor Ford House listed. We bought our house from a family who moved because the mother had remarried and they needed more room for the new blended family. The kids left us a note about how much they loved the house they had grown up in. It was very sweet. Moving Out: A Top Secret Note for the New Tenants Manhattan Nest |

Wainscot can be attached directly to drywall. I attached it in my home office using paneling adhesive (fits into a caulk gun) and finishing nails. The wainscot planks I bought from Home Depot came with a grooved baseboard and chair rail, but I jerryrigged a slightly different solution so that I could salvage the tall baseboard in my home. Since we have one bathroom, I bought a waterfall bedroom vanity and have used it for years. I cannot understand why they ever went out of style. I even have my hair dryer and curling iron hanging from the back of the triple mirror. My daughter goes to my room whenever she wants to primp. My husband is not allowed to leave anything on it, it's a "girls only" space. Once Ubiquitous Furnishings We've (Mostly) Left Behind |
