Hey, this site is a long time in coming.

And I have to agree that it is the amount of money that people are asking for bad bad bad furniture that is the real joke.

I am decorating my new rental and plan on a soft palette of browns, grays, black and white, and icy blue. What I need is a suggestion for an accent color. I want something in the place that will pop. What do you think??

Are you thinking something like this:

I really like this.

Love the suggestions and the links are great.

Also, can natural wood work with the pink theme? I have the Malm bed in beech and a mid century dresser which is a bit darker. Most pink rooms I see are mainly white or black furniture.

I need some Color Help:

I have been contemplating doing my bedroom pink and would love some advice to keep it looking like the room of a 36 year old married girly-girl and not the room of a child. :)

This is something of the color I want
http://www.flickr.com/photos/capitalcitylaura/237347575/in/photostream/

but I haven't decided on whether to paint the walls pink or another color and add the pink elsewhere.

I want a funky, fun and grown up look. Any suggestions??

note: DH says he doesn't mind me decorating our bedroom pink. :P

Loooove the Addams Family and their entire home. Some parts are a bit too frou frou for me but I love the bizarre (the mounted fish with a leg sticking out, the two headed turtle) what a way to add some fun to any decor. Someone should make some wacky faux taxidermy.

IMO the hide rug rocks. I agree that the two rugs don't go well together tho.

Color Question:

We are selling our home and are in the process of some 'home-staging'. So far we have painted most of our rooms a creamy white. Personally I don't like to live with so much neutral. I am a color girl so I want to add impermanent accents (curtains, pillows, etc) in a fun color.
Home-staging experts recommend red to move the eye and add a jolt. I am not a real big fan of red so I wondered if using orange or pink would do the trick just as well? Any suggestions? We actually have to live in the house and who knows how long it will take to sell so I don't want to live with something I don't like.

thanks

I feel your pain. I have bedroom furniture from my grandmother that goes with nothing and is enormous. Plus mine is veneer so I can't even paint it!

Good Questions: Save This Room, Save My Marriage?
7/21/07 4:08 AM

Whoops. I put my question on the old thread.

I may purchase this cool mid-century dining set for $125.00 Seller says it is sturdy except for the four chairs. It is the hutch, buffet, table, chairs and table pads.

Is this a good deal??

"my dog had jumped up on my old bedspread and, well, let's just say she soiled it when she sat down and wagged her tail"

ROFLMAO!! I KNOW what you mean! :D :D

I am glad you asked this question, since I have the same problem, and I am glad people answered you instead of trying to tell you to keep the dog off the bed!

Good Questions: Great Tightly Knit Cotton Quilts?
4/20/07 12:25 PM

I have this one too! I live in a decent sized house in Vermont. I often have the dream where I have at least one extra room. It will be full of furniture and nick-nacks that the previous owner left behind and we have never discovered before.

I also have the one where I am packing to move or go on a trip and there is sooo much stuff I can't get it all together...it's clothes and dishes and make up and tons and tons of stuff. :)

Good Questions: Does Anyone Have This Dream?
4/13/07 6:56 AM

Ha! Regarding the quilting thing: I have in my possession a quilt made by my sister in 1974 that has a square for each of my mom's kids ( families) that was a gift to my mom for Christmas of that year. "My" square was embroidered by my sister since I was 3 years old at the time. The whole quilt is pieces of clothing and misc. fabric that was around at the time, my mom's house-coat, my 'play blanket', my sister's psychedelic plaid dress, etc. The border and backing is BRIGHT ORANGE. Right now it is on my daughter's bed..she loves it. It is pretty grotesque style-wise but the history is undeniable!
