My best friend and I have shared living arrangements since our studio apartments in college. At that time, there was room for only 1 big bed and both of us were over sleeping in twins a la the dorms. We are both the oldest of many siblings (her 7, me 4), and had grown up with sisters in our beds often, so it wasn't weird to share the bed, and we found that we both much preferred it and slept better. We've continued to share a bed ever since.

It's interesting that all but one of these businesses has been around for less than 2 years. One said that a mentor warned them that the 2nd and 3rd years are the hardest- not new, but not tradition either.

@petworthy, a friend made me a butcher block board that I avoid lifting because it is so big, and so I use my little plastic boards for anything that doesn't clean off easily with salt and a damp rag. After one time, I found garlic and onion were not a good mix with the butcher block board.

Ikea has 26" deep butcherblock countertops- 48" for $40, and 96" for $60. Just get those, put little rubber feet on the bottom, and set it on top of the granite.

My family did this several years ago after all of us kids moved out and kept calling home for recipes. We did it between Christmas and New Years, and originally posted it to a shared Google Document, which those of us who don't have computers in the kitchen (cough *parents*) printed up, and then I transferred it to a basic Blogspot blog shortly thereafter. We continue to update it, allowing the family to share recipes. I use it to store recipes I like as well. The thing I like the most about it is I set up the labels as an index, so let's say we have eggplant that needs to be eaten, I can click the eggplant label, and it brings up all the recipes that use eggplant.

I live in Phoenix, and buy my sliced bread from TJ's, which goes in the freezer. Very easy to pull a piece or two off when needed and microwave for 30 secs. We do this with English muffins too. However, I have found that the homemade bread lasts beautifully just wrapped in a tea towel, cut into, or not cut into, traveling or not traveling. Of course, it never lasts more than a few days, but that is for other reasons! This has worked for me here and in No. CA.

Basically this tells the story that Americans do not eat vegetables, or much fresh food of any sort. Even the well-off people!

In Arizona, the health codes are very strict, and anyone serving food to the public has to have a food handler's certificate. I believe that the kitchen has to follow all the health codes of a commercial kitchen as well. The teen minister at my church was a professional baker in her previous career, and she uses the church's kitchen whenever she caters because it would be too much work/money to use hers.

Hydro-cortisone cream- swelling and itching are the body's response to the anti-coagulants mosquitoes inject at the beginning of the bite to ensure good blood flow- our bodies recognize it as foreign and try to encapsulate it (swelling) and break it down/expel it (itching). Cortisone blocks the inflammatory response, minimizing itching and swelling.

I once through a dinner party in my college apartment with tables in a U-shape around my bed. It turned out wonderfully, but I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the arrangement. We fit more than 10 people for a sit down dinner!

I don't know as it's really a salmonella thing, although I'm sure that hasn't helped, as much as a cultural thing. My family just has never done soft-boiled. I'd never heard of it until I became an adult. I remember wondering why in the heck everyone had a raw egg for breakfast in the book, Bread and Jam for Frances, and sympathized with her greatly. We always had scrambled (which I also hated!).
