It may have been a dry sink, but it could now be a wet bar!

What Was This Furniture Piece Used For? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles

My take is that furniture stores create vignettes to simulate the way people might use the furniture they sell. In a home, it's just arranged in ways that reflect their use. Thus, aren't all furniture arrangements in a home vignetted? I don't understand question, I guess.

I usually shop at thrift stores, so there's the added pressure that in terms of buying it, it's now or never.

When we first moved into our house, there was a special urgency to find furniture quickly, but now that we're mostly statisfied with the decor, it takes a higher bar (reasonable price, great design, good condition, fits our decor, fits a need) to buy anything because it means it's displacing what we already have.

That said, last month, when I saw an amazing midcentury credenza that I really liked, in good condition, for $150, I bought it immediately. We don't have a place for it and it's sitting in the garage, but someday ....

It's better to buy a couple of the 3-drawer Malm units and set them side-by-side than one longer 6-drawer unit (as shown in the photo above) because the longer units tend to sag badly in the middle.

Too much work! Why not just get the Bekvam cart from Ikea?

You can omit the wheels and use a chop saw to have all the legs be the same length.

I don't recall ever having problems putting IKEA furniture together. I find it fun and relaxing also.

The CB2 acacia bar was probably the most difficult furniture I've put together, from the weight of the boxes, the numerous pieces, the order of things, to putting on the hinges to the doors and lining them up with the adjustment screws. Added to this was the fact that one of the wooden pegs used early in the process was missing. Rather than wait for them to order the part, I carved a replacement peg from a dowel.

I agree that the table is too low. Besides that, it seems too modern compared to the more traditional-looking sofa. Your friend might consider a tea table, which is at a higher level. As it is, the room seems geared more toward TV watching than entertaining. Perhaps some small chairs on the opposite side of the coffee table or to the left?

Perhaps paint at least one of the walls a warmer color? Not crazy about the rug; its bold pattern overwhelms the rest of the space and draws your attention to the floor because except for the orange stools and yellow pillows, nothing really stands out. If you paint an accent wall, say yellow or burnt orange behind the couch, then the rug wouldn't stand out so much.

Yikes! $1,200!!

I'd rather get the Expedit bookcase from Ikea ($149) and buy a computer with the rest.
