I impulse-painted a built-in bookshelf in my rental earlier this year. When we moved in, the back of the bookshelf was matte white, with terrible-looking duct tape remnants stuck to the wall from who knows when. The shelves were painted glossy dark brown. It was awful. I painted the whole thing a slate blue-gray after an impromptu hardware store run on my way home from the gym. It is so nice now! When the Mood Strikes: Impulse Makeovers & Upgrades |

I agree with @Carrotsticks. Ice cold water and a penny (or two) is good for tulips and daffodils. Switch out the water every day or so and literally add ice cubes. New pennies and old, dirty pennies work the same, btw. 5 (More) Ways to Make Cut Flowers Last |

Why is there a lit candle in pic #5? Organized closets are great... Candles are great... But no. Beautifully Organized: Linen Closets |

@J4 If I kept all of my jeans, I'd have 30 pairs but I'd still only wear 3. Sometimes it's ok to admit that a certain jean style/color/what-have-you has gone out of style. Something that looked good six years ago does not necessarily look good now. Plus, I can guarantee I wasn't wearing bright red skinny jeans back then... but today they're my fave! We just signed a lease in Central/Powderhorn Minneapolis for $900 a month. It's a 2-bedroom with a large kitchen, dishwasher, separate living and dining, great hardwoods, molding and built-ins. Plus a free washer and dryer, and a 1-stall garage with an opener. Plus a porch! And a little yard! We're thrilled. Tell Us: What Was Your Best Apartment Deal Ever? |

I think they put the idea through the "wringer" not through the "ringer." Unless it's a pun. Get Macro Photos From Your iPhone With a Drop of Water |

@Danny & Carlos - the ring stencil is probably from http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/stencil-stencils-metro.html?category_id=12. I used the acacia stencil in my last apartment, and it turned out so well. Didn't take a lot of time either! i stenciled one wall (approx. 12x9) in just a few hours, for anyone curious about the time commitment. obviously a living room would take longer, but one wall - especially the one you see through another doorway - makes a great impact! Passing the Time During Time Consuming Projects |

I never thought decorating could be such a source of conflict... but when my roommate wagged her finger at me and told me the only way to handle a shelf situation in the bathroom was "six months and six months," I just about lost it. 10 Topics to Discuss With a Potential Roommate |

@ hyzen - I painted my dining room Behr: Pewter Mug last week, and I love it! It never looks green, has a lovely dove gray cast in the morning, and a deeper feeling in the evening. (in a room w/east-facing windows) It only took one coat, too! Tracy's City Apartment Flickr Find |

I'm in love with the aqua color in the dining room (and the table - obviously) AND the purple/gray in the living room. Please share paint colors! I agree with other posters - and I've DONE it - use the largest 3M hooks - the metal ones, which cost around $9 apiece. You can get a lightweight rod from Target for around $20 (I think I have the cafe rod - it looks like brushed nickel, but really it's plastic or something).
