These are all great ideas!

So, if I have an oven that was made in the last ten years but isn't a super awesome one (we're renters, so it's very middle-of-the-road), do I need to crack my oven door? Of is this just something my mom tells me?

I used to live in Portugal and they, too, would hang bags of water in their door frames. I thought they were crazy but not it seems I'll be joining their ranks as I try this next time I'm easting outside. Good post!

Galas...and only Galas. My wife thinks I'm an apple snob because I only eat one kind.

Ah, pistachios...I'm still waiting for the day when scientists discover that there is, in fact, some addictive substance in these nuts. I love them and I know they are "healty" in the right serving size but, having no self control, that line gets crossed in a matter of minutes and when I'm done it's just a dot on the horizon. There's got to be some sort of natural drug that explains this.

I'm a huge fan of SimplyNoise. I listen online while I'm at work when I need to focus or if my brain just needs a break.

I only use their "brown noise" because a lot of the higher frequencies are cut and it sounds more comfortable over a longer perion of time.

I would pretty much do anything short of selling a kidney or a child to be a guest judge on Iron Chef America.

That or anything with Alton Brown.

So I have a bottle of ginger ale that is in day one of fermentation and I have a rather dumb question...
Is the alcohol in the finished product negligible? Am I going to get buzzed? Is it okay for kids to try?

I recently bought myself a enameled cast iron dutch oven and it pretty much changed the way I cook. I'm a dad who loves to cook. My wife bakes and I cook, so it's a great tradeoff. My dutch over has been put into frequent weekly rotation with awesome results. If you don't have one, you can get one for less than $50 at most big retailers (that's what I did). I would have loved to drop a wad of cash on a Le Creuset but I can replace this one 4 times before I reach the price of one of those, even though they are amazing.

I dare you to buy one and cook short ribs and see if you don't feel the same way about a dutch oven. Life changing, I tell you.
