I wish there were more shots, because based on this one view, I think it might be my old apartment lol. Jennifer's "Blue Love" Room Room for Color Contest |

Just make sure you know what you're doing when you start removing unused programs. I went through this "fall cleaning" for my computer, recently, and removed all of the programs I rarely use, removed a few dozen gigs of old movies and music and files, and then defragged for good measure, thinking my computer would run beautifully after organizing everything. We have a retired nosy guy next door who serves as neighborhood watch for the entire street. He once came over to tell me my ex-husband had been poking around the house one day while I was at work. Weird and scary. =/ The neighbors on the other side have two hunting dogs that live in an outdoor kennel, so being sandwiched between these two homes is the best security system I could hope for. ;) Home Security: Tips, Ideas & DIY Projects |

What a timely post. My garbage can just turned itself into garbage. We have a robot garbage can from costco (it's not really a robot, that'd be awesome). It has a sensor for the lid and opens when you wave your hand over it. It's great for the little cans in the washrooms (it came as a set), but the kitchen garbage is used so often that the motor finally burnt out. Now I think we're going to find a more basic can. My sister has a simple human one that we like. She described it as being grossly overpriced, but said that she got a good sized gift card from someone for a "fancy kitchen store" and needed a garbage can, and had nothing else to spend the gift card on, so... I wish someone would give me a nice big gift card. ;) Haha. I'll probably end up with the $18 garbage can, myself. Best Large Garbage Cans 2012 Apartment Therapy's Annual Guides |

My church used to keep a huge play table of this when I was young - some 30 odd years ago. Nobody died. Nobody starved. ;) Haha. Point being it's not a new concept, and I remember even back then loving the feeling of the rice pouring through my hands. And it was great for the parents, who didn't show up after church to scoop up their kids with muddy fingers, as the rice was fairly mess-free. I do remember volunteering as a teenager, and HATING sweeping up the rice at the end of the day, though. =P Make a Simple Rice Table A Life Sustained |

When we were redoing our stairs, I fought and fought for hardwood for both the look, and the cleanliness. It's a lot easier to give the stairs a quick sweep than to lug out the vacuum. I ended up losing the battle after the cost argument. For the price of hardwood, we could have carpet professionally installed 3 times. I'm actually glad we went with carpet. I don't need to vacuum it NEARLY as often as I feared, and it's a very light color. And nobody has fallen down the stairs. When we have had wooden stairs in the past, my husband took quite the tumble down them, and the kids slipped on a regular basis. I will always prefer the look of wood, but for practicality the carpet won in our house. Slipping, Sliding & Safety: Carpeted vs. Wooden Stairs |

PI, the disguise is the trim that's hiding the cord. Pretty good idea, too. Better than the super obvious paintable cord cover that most people are stuck with. Stealthy & Stylish Tech Disguises Roundup |

I would suggest Magic Mesh (the walkthrough magnetic As Seen on TV screen), but after having just bought a set of it, having it arrive full of holes and then having to fight with people on the phone (who didn't believe me that I had even ordered it, despite the fact that my credit card was charged and the item had shipped and arrived) I finally got a replacement. Replacement lasted a full week before I ripped it down in exasperation (with the stick on velcro being left behind, permanently attached FOREVER) because it kept falling off, and has HUGE GAPS between the magnets where bees and small birds can fly through, and oh yeah...that magical thing that happens where the magnets just automatically clip closed after you walk through? Does not happen. You have to physically re-magnet them each time you walk through. So there you go. Free review. Avoid Magic Mesh as a solution. Maybe you can get a screen with a big enough doggie door for the kids to crawl in and out? ;) Hahaha. Keeping Bugs Out with Windows Open? Good Questions |

Bed rest means she's stuck in her home for an extended period of time, so maybe that's how this ended up being covered as a topic. Send the child a Billy bookcase and an allan key. That should keep him out of mom's hair for a bit. ;) Getting Through Bedrest with a Toddler |

I've actually seen a new build where somebody did this on purpose. Weirdest design, ever. Anyway they did it with the intention of creating a super casual lounge area, as others have mentioned, complete with cushions and random musical instruments for impromptu jam sessions. We had no intention of buying one, as we were promised a brand new playground within walking distance, by the housing developers that completely ravaged the forest that used to surround our house. After a couple of years with the promised playground nowhere in sight, we decided to buy a play structure for the kids so they'd have somewhere safe to play. I would think that it would be easy enough for an adult to train him/herself to remember to turn off the lights. I turn off lights as I leave a room, without fail. As does my spouse. The issue we have is with the kids! My son will leave his nightlight on EVERY morning when he leaves for school. When he wakes up in the morning, his room is so bright that he can't tell the little light is on. I am planning on stealing the Christmas tree light timer and using it for his night light. I am actually nursing a sleeping baby as I type this! Lay like the woman in the photo above. I am currently on the sofa. Place laptop beside you. One arm under baby's head, one arm over baby's belly. Type. My only issue is with the laptop getting pretty warm, as it's sitting right on the leather sofa. I've also been on the look-out for a low stand that I can set the laptop on, right on the sofa beside me, but still comfortably type. I've seen a few at Best Buy that would work, but need to detach the baby to go shopping. ;) Laptop Stand For Breastfeeding Mom? Good Questions |
