Yes, I just came back from a 10-day vacation in Maui. We booked a studio-condo this time to have access to a full kitchen and washer and drier. We grilled shrimp one night and put together a simple salad topped with poke from grocery store for another night. We packed lunch & snack; chopped fresh fruits and mixed drinks for most days. TMHO it's better stay than hotel room!

It's not necessary to have one because you can chop anything with a knife and a cutting board or mix dough by hand, etc. Needless to say IT"S NICE TO HAVE A FOOD PROCESSOR because it cuts down your prep time.

Paella (Spanish seafood rice dish) or Bouillabaise (French seafood soup). Trader Joe's sells a small jar of saffron for $5.99. Not the best, but good enough for amatuer cook.

Now that's a great idea. My hubby and I have "Fry Day" on Friday all the time. We usually fry fish fillet, shrimp, mushroom, broccoli or cauliflower. Now you got me thinking about inviting friends over for "Fry Day".

I've used this vinegar for a while now. It's delicious! Mild tanginess and sweet (probably from the Muscat Champagne). Sometimes I would use it straight without whisking it with oil.

I'm cooking for two and we both work, so weeknight dinners prefered to be ready within one hour. I'm the cook and my husband is the helper and dish washer. I made up weekly menu ahead and know exactly what to serve each night. Preparing dinner together gives us a chance to catch up and exchange the daily news.

In Vietnam we eat diner for breakfast and that's the norm. Banh mi (French sandwiches), Pho, rice noddle soup, rice dish, savory sticky rice pastry, congee with salted duck egg name a few. Breakfast portion is just smaller that's all.

I loved IKEA kitchen. We replaced our vacation home kitchen with IKEA cabinets almost five years ago. We were not sure about the measurement between the stove and the wall so we ended up ordering two different-size drawer units. The larger one fit better and IKEA gladly accepted the other unit back (all ready put together). I'm still happy with kitchen so far. I've told my husband when it's time to renovate our main resident's kitchen, I would go with IKEA again. Thanks for the infor on Semihomemade Doors. I bookmarked it for future usage.

Yes, put your fresh herbs in the glass of water like a bouquet, cover it with zip-lock bag and keep it in the refrigerator. Remember to trim off the herb stems first.

Totally agreed with your comment. I don't have good knives but I can positively say I'm a good cook. Mixer saves you time, enameled cast iron pot holds heat better than anything else, sharp knives make food preparation easier, etc. If anything at all I would invest into a complete sets of daily-used china. You get to use and look at them every day.
