when I loved out of my mom's house as a teenager, I moved out. posters, furniture, adolescent crap, everything. I guess most people go to university straight away and live in the dorms and need a room to come "home" to. I waited a couple years for my education and got a cute apartment that I started decorating with thrift store finds straight away. how badly I wish I still had the matching set of four vintage, original powder PINK fiberglass shell chairs with eiffel bases. totally original, and in 1997, $20 for the set at a second-hand store. given to my neighbor to use as patio furniture when I moved away. aaauugghh! I've been having this same dilemma, and although I have nothing to add, i still feel it worth mentioning that the Ikea Mynta (the perfect cheap hanging planter) has been discontinued and not replaced with anything similar. arrrgghhh! I really want to know where she got that coffee table. it's awesome. I think the direction her taste is moving in is very evident in her choice of 1. the apartment itself 2. furniture and 3. artwork. with money and time she'll build an amazing space. as it stands it's knocking the socks off anything I lived in before i turned 28. simply making sure I have adequate organizational and storage furniture. bookshelves, cabinets, boxes, and racks. as long as everything has a place to be put away to, I can get the decorating part done at my leisure. my dad's dog also has a bell on a string and it is constantly being rung just so he can go check out a grasshopper or slight movement in the weeds beyond the lawn. works great. kinda. depends on how much you wanna get bugged. nelsorp: I'm pretty sure there are other things being paid for in the $334 an hour. for example: wood, glue, fabric, expensive power tools and other machinery for their shop, space to build it in, the wage of their accountant, manager, janitor etc, insurance for the business, the workers, the workers families, and the items themselves. I don't have 4k to spend on a chair but I do think we're used to having things too inexpensively. sometimes the true price of an item is much higher than what you pay. I would rather buy my jeans from Diesel for $100 because I know their workers are treated right, have health care, day care, and that they lead the way in the garment industry for not being wasteful. obviously, not all expensive items are made in that manner, but pretty much all inexpensive items come at a high cost.
