Our designer secrets, when designing your room use the 60-30-10 rule - to select colors. Your wall color would be the 60%, 30% for upholstery and fabrics and 10% accent color. In re: pattern - every room needs 3. A geometric - like your great rug, a solid and an organic (flowers, leaves, doggies, whatever).

Treat them as if they are 2 separate windows, The trick is to use the same width of drapery in the middle as is used on each end. That is, if the draperies on each end are say 10" wide when open, try to achieve approximately 10" of fabric in the middle. With that said, you also need to decide if you need draperies and/or blinds for privacy. Doing w/out might not be an option. And, we very much believe in taking the eye away from something weird in our homes...we all have those - perhaps a great arch lamp and fun chair in the corner will minimize your angst with the drapery situation.
